🇭🇺 House of Terror: History Living

The 20th century particularly dark period of Hungary’s history, as after the Habsburg Monarchy fell, Hungary spent more than half of the century under totalitarian rule, both under fascism and then communism. Many Hungarians suffered and lost their lives during this period, so it was a complex period definitely worth some understanding if you do come and visit Hungary. This is how the House of Terror, or the Terror Haza Museum, is for, to serve as a way for visitors to understand the terrors that Hungarians lived under during the difficult period. It is housed in the former offices of the fascist and communist regimes, along Andrássy Avenue which is just a few minutes walk away from Oktogon metro station. The first section of the museum is about Hungary’s history during the interwar and wartime period, when it was ruled by the fascist Arrow Cross Party. The second is about the communist rule in Hungary. What I like about the museum is its authenticity as it shares many real stories of real people.
