Sudi Spring Dawn, Su Dongpo created the first of the Ten Scenes of West Lake

There are three famous dikes on West Lake, and the one that divides West Lake into two at the core position is the three-kilometer-long Sudi, which was also known as Sugongdi in ancient times. It was built by the famous great literati Su Shi during his tenure as the governor of Hangzhou in the Northern Song Dynasty in order to dredge the canal and clear the silt of West Lake, and then built the silt into a long dike and reinforced both sides with large stones, finally connecting the mountain ranges on the north and south sides, forming the core landscape of West Lake. In memory of Su Dongpo, later generations named it 'Sudi' and it has been so called to this day. In spring, whether walking on the road in the middle of Sudi and observing the West Lake on both sides, or watching the tender green scenery of Sudi in spring from the outside, it is very beautiful and moving. This has also become the first of the 'Ten Scenes of West Lake', 'Sudi Spring Dawn'. The Summer Palace in Beijing also has a slender dike, dividing Kunming Lake into two, and in spring, countless weeping willows form a beautiful scene on the shore. The landscaping technique of the Summer Palace is completely learned from Sudi. In order to ensure that the West Lake waters on the left and right sides divided by Sudi are connected, there are six arch bridges built on Sudi, from south to north, they are Yingbo, Suolan, Wangshan, Yadi, Dongpu, and Kua Hong. In the Yuan Dynasty, there were also six bridges and willows in the Ten Scenes of Qiantang River rated by people. There has been a folk rhyme since ancient times: 'Six bridges in the scenery of West Lake, a willow and a peach.' Another saying is: 'Ten miles of long embankment across six bridges, a willow and a peach.' In the Southern Song Dynasty, Sudi Spring Dawn was listed as the first of the Ten Scenes of West Lake, and in the Yuan Dynasty, it was also called 'Six Bridges and Willows' and included in the Ten Scenes of Qiantang River, which shows that it has been loved by people since ancient times.
