Spring tour to Shaxi Ancient Town in Yunnan

Shaxi Ancient Town has a long history, which can be traced back to the Yin and Shang Dynasties. Due to the large amount of copper mines in the area, Shaxi has also become one of the important birthplaces of Yunnan bronze culture. Shaxi Ancient Town is a concentration of salt produced in the salt wells on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, and the main trade goods are salt, tea, and horses. The local religion and culture are rich, with Bai, Han, Yi, Lisu and other ethnic groups, of which the Bai nationality accounts for more than 90%. Famous cultural landscapes include Sideng Street, Sifang Street, Xingjiao Temple, ancient stage, stockade gate, Yujin Bridge, etc. Folk festivals include Taizi Meeting, Torch Festival, etc. In 2001, Shaxi Ancient Town was listed by the World Monuments Fund (WMF) as one of the 101 world endangered architectural heritage worth paying attention to in 2002. In 2005, the Shaxi Ancient Town Protection Project was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award for Cultural Heritage Protection in the Asia-Pacific Region by UNESCO. In 2012, it was rated as a national AAAA level scenic spot by the National Tourism Scenic Area Quality Rating Committee. On April 1, 2021, the Yunnan Provincial Government named Jianchuan Shaxi Ancient Town as "Yunnan Province's Featured Town"
