Taupo Hiking

Taupo is a tourist city on the north shore of Lake Taupo. The lake is located in the heart of the North Island and to the south are three active volcanoes - Ruapehu, Ngaluho and Tongaro. The success of Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy made the place internationally famous, the scenery of Mordor was taken from the Tongariro Walkway, and Mount Nauruhoe played "Mount Doom". Without the expensive special effects, the place actually looks cute.
