Plaza de Sant Juan, Saint John Square

Saint Juan Square Plaza de Sant Juan Plaça de Sant Joan is located in the historic center of Vilafranca, overlapping with the commercial and administrative center. Its origin dates back to the confiscation of the old Order of St. John in Jerusalem in 1836, and it was subsequently demolished in 1845. In 1866, with the construction of a new porch building, the square area was closed off and a central fountain was installed there. In 1885, the interior space of the square was used for selling fruits and vegetables. In 1936, Moy's house was demolished to provide a square for Casa de la Vila, and the unity of Plaça de Sant Joan was broken by merging two spaces. It is a rectangular square with a porch on adjacent sides. On the other two sides are the side facades of the Church of Sant Joan and the Villa Square that forms a unit with it. The characteristic of the square space is the central fountain, the trees surrounding the perimeter of the square, and the porch that runs through the outside of the square.
