Mini Road Trip in Xinjiang: Yizhao Highway, Heavenly Horses & the Azure Lake

#chinatravel Driving from Yining to Xiata was nothing short of breathtaking. The Yizhao Highway, nicknamed the “Little Duku,” was even more stunning than Ahe Highway, with screen-saver worthy views of mountains, grasslands, and winding roads. We passed by Tianma Yuhe (Heavenly Horses Bathing River) in Zhaosu Wetland Park — only managed to catch one performance, which was impressive but didn’t quite justify the ticket price; more time for other shows would be better. The final gem was Yuhu (Jade Lake) — a serene, intensely blue lake that meets the rushing, muddy snowmelt river with a magical contrast.
