🏨 Bao Lian Temple
🌟 Highlights:
Bao Lian Temple has gone through ups and downs over a thousand years, initially called Long Hua Temple, later Hong Feng Temple and Hong Lian Temple, and was finally named Bao Lian Temple during the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong era. It was deserted on the eve of liberation.
In 2009, the Xuzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone decided to rebuild the Pan Tao Mountain Historical and Cultural Scenic Area. The project was initiated by Hong Kong's Jin Feng Company, approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Religious Affairs Bureau, and the temple name was personally inscribed by Master Hsing Yun.
After reconstruction, Bao Lian Temple comprises 'eight halls, two pavilions, and one courtyard', with architectural features that showcase the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty style.
Among the architectural complex, the Seven Buddhas Hall is currently the largest Da Xiong Bao Dian in China, covering an area of 2,377 square meters; inside the hall, there is a 37.5 meters long and 9.5 meters high mural of the South Sea Guanyin, which is currently the largest single Buddhist-themed mural in China.
The Tong Tian Pavilion, standing at 59.88 meters, is currently the tallest Buddhist pavilion in China, enshrining the true body of Maitreya Buddha—Tian Guan Maitreya, with a Buddha statue that is 39.88 meters high, also the largest indoor forged copper Buddha statue in China.

Xuzhou Baolian Temple
"The ancient temple sits quietly on the mountain top, with incense smoke winding up to the blue sky." For those who come to Xuzhou, Baolian Temple might be the first choice for a visit. Founded during the Yongxing period of the Northern Wei Dynasty, it is located on the southern slope of Pantao Mountain. The temple is famous for its Pantao Buddhist culture and is the first temple in China with an Indian style. Its patriarch, Master Faxian, was also the first monk in history to return from a journey to the West to obtain scriptures.
As soon as you get off the bus, you step into the Lotus Square, where a giant golden lotus blooms at the center of the square, as if some attraction is spreading, or perhaps it's because most of the visitors are young people!
Entering the temple, you first come to the Hall of Heavenly Kings, with its solemn and majestic architecture. Inside, the Four Heavenly Kings of Buddhism are enshrined. Amidst the chanting, a sense of respect arises at the sight.
Walking into the Mahavira Hall (also known as the Seven Buddhas Hall), the mural behind depicts the story of Guanyin of the South Sea. It is the largest single Buddhist-themed mural in the country, astonishing to behold.
The Tongtian Pavilion at the very back is the tallest Buddhist pavilion in the country, and it houses the largest indoor cast copper Buddha statue - the Tian Guan Maitreya Buddha statue. Looking up, it's like facing a tall mountain, awe-inspiring!
A visit to Baolian Temple is not complete without a bowl of vegetarian noodles. The noodle soup is made from various mushrooms, topped with a mushroom sauce, fresh and fragrant beyond the mundane! Accompanied by a vegetarian San Ding bun and special pastries, it's both tempting and meditative, lingering on!

.
🍜Baolian Temple Vegetarian Noodle House: After entering the park, you can see long queues on both sides, just join the shorter line 🤣
Meals: Vegetarian noodles/Chinese pastries/Buns
Vegetarian noodles 15r💰About twenty minutes wait, tastier than I expected, with toppings like mushrooms, wood ear fungus, greens, dried tofu, and carrots🥕
Vegetarian bun 3r💰Stuffing with greens and mushrooms
Three-ding bun 4r💰Pleurotus eryngii, dried tofu, and bamboo shoots
Both are very delicious!! Quite large and very filling!

Here is the most comprehensive guide to Bao Lian Temple in Xuzhou
🚌Transportation:
You can choose to take a taxi or ride a shared electric scooter🛵 (two girls can ride together). The starting taxi fare is 8 yuan, with no price increase at night, which is cheap and convenient.
📷Visiting:
➡️Right at the main square of Bao Lian Temple is a large golden lotus🪷 building, which is very exquisite and aesthetically pleasing
➡️To the right of the lotus, the visitor center offers luggage storage🧳 and sells creative cultural ice cream for 15 yuan per stick (beautiful and delicious, 5⭐️ highly recommended)
➡️Upon entering the temple, you can freely take a tray of three incense sticks from the panda🐼 tray to use for worship
➡️Continuing forward, you will see the vegetarian noodle house. It is advised to buy pastries earlier rather than later, as they may sell out
➡️Inside the temple🉑️, you can visit and worship at will, divination is 10 yuan per fortune, and you can look up the interpretation on Baidu if you don't understand it. For blessings (there are two masters in the Guanyin temple who can pray and chant scriptures for you, a donation for incense is sufficient)
➡️If you want to get a stamp, go to the 'Guest Hall' behind Guanyin, where you can get a free🆓 stamp📒
➡️The place to eat noodles on the lower right side after getting a stamp is relatively less crowded than the noodle house at the entrance
⚠️Avoid:
1⃣️Wearing short skirts, shorts, flip-flops, or other clothing that exposes too much skin
2⃣️When entering the hall, do not step on the threshold; cross it to enter
3⃣️After entering the hall, do not talk, eat, or preferably take photos (two lights shine together, one will be harmed. I heard this, so I never take photos of Buddha statues in temples)
4⃣️If you're not specifically there to ask for wealth or career success, don't make too specific requests when worshiping, such as asking the Buddha to bless you with a promotion and a raise next year or success in a certain matter. If the wish you make casually comes true, you need to return to the temple to repay your vow, otherwise, there will be negative consequences... (This was a reminder from a tour guide during a previous trip) After all, if it's a wish made without intention, you might forget it
5⃣️It's a good idea to prepare some change🪙 in advance for donations
🍜Eating:
✅The vegetarian noodles at Bao Lian Temple are very popular online🔥, and they indeed taste good with a fresh soup. It's also recommended to try the vegetarian buns, which are also very good👍
✅As for pastries, they taste good, 🈶️ with six different flavors and shapes, beautiful and delicious. If you want to buy them, you should go early to the place where they sell vegetarian noodles, as they may run out later. 💰38/box
📿Bracelets:
✅💰48 Bao Lian Temple's eighteen-seed bracelets are very popular🔥, but many netizens reported strange reactions after wearing them, so I didn't buy one
✅I bought two other styles, which are also very beautiful and I like them a lot
There are many consecrated items, such as combs, phone lanyards, bracelets, prayer beads, bangles, hairpins, etc.
✅Don't follow the trend, choose what you like.
⚠️⚠️⚠️Consecrated items should not be worn while bathing or sleeping, they must not come into contact with water, and should not be placed in the bathroom, toilet, or kitchen❗️❗️❗️
After leaving Bao Lian Temple, you can go to the snack street to walk around, eat snacks, or have a barbecue

Baolian Temple is the practice ground of Maitreya Bodhisattva, originally established during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, and has experienced a thousand years of changes. It has been known successively as Longhua Temple, Hongfeng Temple, and Honglian Temple, and was finally named Baolian Temple during the Qing Dynasty's Qianlong era, falling into disuse on the eve of liberation. The highest structure, the Tongtian Pavilion, is 59.88 meters tall and is the tallest Buddhist pavilion in China. Although Baolian Temple is not large, it is stunningly beautiful. I have never seen a temple with such architectural style before, with a somewhat exotic charm, very beautiful and photogenic. The scenic area is now free of charge, and a 2-hour visit is sufficient. This place can definitely be counted as one of the most worthwhile attractions in Xuzhou.

Xuzhou Baolian Temple | A temple worth visiting
Xuzhou ~ "Most Beautiful" Baolian Temple
Baolian Temple is located at the foot of Pantao Mountain in the east of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It was first built during the Yongchu period of the Liu Song Dynasty in the Southern and Northern Dynasties (Yongxing period of the Northern Wei Dynasty), and is the first temple in China with an Indian style.
Baolian Temple has "eight halls, two pavilions, and one courtyard", covering an area of 16,400 square meters, and its architectural features fully demonstrate the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty.
Outside the temple, the Bodhi Holy Lotus Square, Pantao Shengjing Mountain Gate, Tianlong Babu (Sumi Mountain) Square and Tongtian Pavilion together form the main axis of the Pantao Mountain Buddhist Cultural Scenic Area, and also open up the framework for the future development space of the scenic area, which can be called the first temple in the eastern part of Pengcheng.
When you come to Baolian Temple, you must go to eat a bowl of "vegetarian noodles", which is on the left side of the exit. The vegetarian noodles have mixed reviews, after all, it's hard to please everyone! Those who like it can go and taste it.
