Tides and Tranquility at Fundy National Park
#canadatrip
My trip to Fundy National Park in New Brunswick was a breathtaking escape into nature’s raw beauty. Famous for having the highest tides in the world, the park offers a constantly changing landscape shaped by the powerful Bay of Fundy. Watching the dramatic rise and fall of the tides was mesmerizing, revealing ocean floors and hidden rock formations within hours.
The hiking trails were a true highlight. From peaceful forest paths to scenic coastal lookouts, every step offered fresh air and stunning views. Dickson Falls was especially magical, with its cascading water surrounded by lush greenery. Wildlife sightings added excitement, as I spotted birds and small forest creatures along the way.
The combination of rugged coastline, dense forests, and tranquil lakes creates a perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. Whether camping under the stars or simply enjoying the ocean breeze, Fundy National Park provides an unforgettable connection to nature’s power and serenity.

Tides and Trails at Fundy National Park
#canadatrip Exploring Fundy National Park was unforgettable, especially witnessing the dramatic tides of the Bay of Fundy — the highest in the world. The park is about a 90-minute drive from Moncton and has an entrance fee, with parking included.
I hiked the Dickson Falls trail, a short and scenic loop leading to beautiful waterfalls, and later walked along the ocean floor at low tide. Timing your visit with the tide schedule is essential for the full experience.
I recommend Fundy National Park for its unique natural phenomenon, diverse hiking options, and the rare chance to experience landscapes that completely transform within hours.

Fundy National Park Of Canada
#canadatrip Very large a park, a lot of trails. To be exact 116 trails, according to Alltrails. We just did a detour on our way from Moncton to Saint John, added about 100km to our original trip. Spent a couple of hours there, just picked up a few spots from the park map to visit. A beautiful park.
Such a varied park. Waterfalls, beaches, forests, and massive tides. The red chairs are perfect for chilling and instagramming. There are plenty of trails to enjoy quiet walks, and there are myriad places to just sit and enjoy nature. Lovely place for a visit.

The Charm of Alma Village
#AlmaNB #Lobster #ParkGateway #LocalEats
The tiny fishing village of Alma, located right at the park's East entrance, is the perfect home base. It has a relaxed, maritime charm. Be sure to visit one of the local lobster pounds or seafood restaurants for the freshest Bay of Fundy lobster you will ever have—you can practically smell the ocean air from the docks! It's the hub for all park activities and has everything you need before heading out on a trail or into the campgrounds.

Hiking the Dickson Falls Trail
#FundyHiking #DicksonFalls #Boardwalk #EasyHike
The Dickson Falls Trail is a must-do, especially for families or those looking for a relatively short (around 1.3 km), beautiful walk. The trail is extremely popular and well-maintained, featuring a series of wooden boardwalks and staircases that wind through a lush, mossy river valley to a beautiful cascading waterfall. It’s accessible right off the main road and gives you a perfect taste of the park's inland Acadian forest and cool, damp microclimate.

Beyond the Bay—The Golf Course & Pool
#FundyAmenities #GolfCourse #HeatedPool #ParkActivities
Fundy National Park offers more than just wilderness! We took advantage of the Heated Saltwater Swimming Pool near the park's central area—a fantastic amenity, especially after a long hike. The Fundy Park Golf Course is also a beautiful, well-maintained course offering scenic views and a fun round, providing a nice change of pace from the typical rugged park activities. It makes Fundy a great destination for a diverse group or family.

The Challenge of Matthew's Head Trail
#CoastalViews #FundyTrails #Strenuous #RedChairs
For a more challenging hike with rewarding scenery, the Matthew's Head Trail is superb. This loop takes you along the rugged coastline, offering incredible, soaring views of the Bay of Fundy cliffs and the vast ocean below. The trail is uneven, with plenty of roots and rocks, but the vista from the iconic Parks Canada Red Chairs at the lookout point is worth the effort. An excellent way to earn your maritime views!

#OTENTik #Glamping #ComfortCamping #FundyAccommodation
For those who want a camping feel without the setup hassle, the oTENTik units (a mix between a tent and a cabin) were a perfect solution. They offered a comfortable, dry, and spacious overnight stay with wooden floors and beds. It felt like a bit of luxury in the wilderness. It's a great choice for shoulder season trips or for families who want a quick, easy, and memorable overnight experience.

Low Tide Exploration (Safety First!)
#TidalFlats #OceanFloor #SafetyWarning #UniqueExperience
Walking on the exposed ocean floor at low tide is a truly otherworldly experience. We found tiny pools of water with small creatures and had a great time exploring the unique mudflats and rock formations. A crucial tip: Always check the official tide tables and be extremely aware of the incoming tide. The water returns deceptively quickly, so it’s vital to stay on marked, high ground and never venture into areas you can't easily exit.

Lack of Crowds and Friendly Vibe
#Underrated #QuietPark #FriendlyLocals #Maritimes
Even during peak summer, Fundy National Park feels relatively uncrowded compared to other major National Parks. This was one of the biggest highlights—we enjoyed solitude on many of the longer trails. Furthermore, the staff and local New Brunswickers were incredibly friendly and welcoming. This park is an underrated gem in the Maritimes, offering stunning natural beauty without the overwhelming bustle. A truly relaxing getaway!

Interior Waterfalls and Streams
#AcadianForest #Waterfalls #KinnieBrook #CoolDown
Venture into the park's interior to appreciate the deep Acadian forest and its numerous waterfalls (the park claims over 25!). We explored the Kinnie Brook Trail, which, while underrated, provided a tranquil walk along a stream. The forest here is dense and cool, a welcome change on a hot summer day. It's an easy way to escape the coastal fog and feel truly surrounded by unspoiled nature.

Camping at Point Wolfe (Rustic Seclusion)
#FundyCamping #PointWolfe #Secluded #CoveredBridge
We opted for the Point Wolfe Campground and loved the rustic, wooded feel. It's the most secluded of the front-country campgrounds, and driving over the picturesque covered bridge to get there felt like entering a different world (be aware that large RVs may not fit!). The sites offered great privacy, and the proximity to fantastic coastal trails like Matthew's Head was perfect. It’s quiet and truly immersive—a great spot for tent campers.

The World's Highest Tides
#BayofFundy #HighestTides #NaturalWonder #CoastalChange
You simply cannot visit Fundy without experiencing the tides. The 12-meter difference between high and low tide is astounding. We spent six hours at Alma Beach and watched the ocean completely disappear, allowing us to walk a kilometer out onto the sea floor where boats had been floating just hours before. Then, we witnessed the rapid, powerful return of the water. Tip: Get a tide schedule and plan your day around it—it’s the main event!
