Honmyoji is a temple of the Nichiren sect located about a 20-minute walk from JR Akita Station. It is next to Hokkeji Temple, the oldest Nichiren sect temple in Akita. A well-shaped mountain gate welcomes worshipers. In front of the mountain gate, there was a stone monument engraved with the Nanmu Myoho Rengekyo on a natural stone. There was Inari Shrine in the precincts. The current main hall was rebuilt in 1894 (Meiji 27). Nichiren sect temples are gathered around here (Hokke Ji Temple, Kujo Ji Temple, Denpo Ji Temple).
