Royal Palace of King Vijayabahu the 1st

The palace was built in 1070, when Anuradhapura was no longer the capital of the Sinhalese kingdom (it moved to Polonnaruwa in the 10th century), and studies have shown that the palace was due to the king's desire to be in the old capital. Leave a stronghold (or a palace is more appropriate) to build. By building this palace, King Vijayabahu I sought to consolidate his rule in the glorious ancient capital of Sinhalese. Unfortunately, apart from two well-preserved retaining stones, very little remains of the building today. Palace Introduction The palace site is a rectangular building site. The main hall is 31 meters long and 13 meters wide, supported by more than 30 stone pillars. The original building was a 7-story building, and now there are only two-story ruins left. In addition to the palace ruins of Palakma Bahu (PolonnaruwaRestHouse), there are other attractions such as the Royal Council Hall (AudienceHall) and the Royal Bath (KumaraPokuna). On the east side of the building is a deep ancient well, and the Mahapalirefectory (canteen), which has a huge trough (about 3 meters long and 2 meters wide), where the devotees will fill with rice for the monks to eat . In the Royal Palace area, you can also see the remains of Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Tooth Relic, which was once the first Temple of the Tooth Relic in Sri Lanka. The Buddha Tooth Relic came to Sri Lanka in 313 AD.
