Salem Baptist Church of Chicago

The Baptists were a major 17th-century sect that spun off from the English Puritan Independences, so named because of the way they baptized their whole body in water. The characteristic of this denomination is that it opposes the baptism of infants and insists that only adults can be baptized; it implements the congregational church system. The international organization of the denomination, the World Federation of Baptists, was established in 1905, with 106 church groups participating, with members on all continents. The Chicago Salem Baptist Church was established in 1985, and the seating area in the church is called the "House of Hope". The church can also hold music concerts and other activities, attracting many people who come to visit the church.
