Gatun Lake

When we visited birds from Huagaeta (Canopy Tower), we explored the edge of Gatun Lake in a boat. This journey was exactly what we hoped for. We observed many species up close in relatively secluded environmental conditions.

Lago Gatún is a large, freshwater artificial lake in the south of Cologne, Panama. It forms an important part of the Panama Canal, transporting ships 33 kilometers across the isthmus of Panama. The lake was built by the Gatun Dam, which spans the Chagres River (Chagres River), between 1907 and 1913. At the time of its creation, the Lake was the largest man-made lake in the world. The Gatun Dam is also the largest of its kind.
