Mount Fanjing

It is the first mountain in Guizhou, the first peak of Wuling, not only the watershed of the Wujiang and Yuanjiang rivers, but also the highest main peak of the Wuling Mountain Range that spans Guizhou, Chongqing, Hunan, and Hubei. After billions of years of baptism, it still maintains the most primitive ecological environment. Fanjing Mountain, named after the 'Brahma Pure Land', is the main peak of the Wuling Mountain Range, located at the junction of Jiangkou, Yinjiang, and Songtao counties in Tongren City, Guizhou Province. Its highest altitude is 2572 meters, and it is one of the earliest places in southern China to rise from the sea to land, and the top of the mountain still retains the geological wonders of the original Honghuang 1.4 billion years ago. Fanjing Mountain is a national nature reserve in China and a World Natural Heritage site. The total area of the area is 775.14 square kilometers, the heritage area is 402.75 square kilometers, and the buffer area is 372.39 square kilometers. In addition, it is also the region with the richest biodiversity at the same latitude in the world, and is known as the 'gene bank of biological resources'.

We came to climb the mountain just a few days before the Chinese New year holiday and we found that there were not too many people. We stayed near the entrance so that we could just walk to the ticket office once we finished our breakfast. currently the ticket is free if you are Chinese but I had to pay 70 rmb. I think it was half price because of the winter season. we took the cable car up and walked the rest up to the mushroom stone. If you travel in Guizhou this is a must see attraction. However, it's different from the pictures in Google I was fooled by as they are made by drone (2d picture) and you will see it from another perspective 😁 It's still an amazing sight! Loved it😍 The tickets need be purchased 1 day in advance (in our case at least), so you can stay for the night nearby or in Jiangkou (they didn't do nucleic test for foreigners in Fanjingshan in July ) When we went there, it was packed with tourists, so on the way back we decided to go down on foot (99.9% take a cable car up and back). Don't do it without proper shoes and if you are not supersuperhikefan, as most of the way is through woods and not so special apart from a few spots, but your legs may hurt for a few days having made 10k steps down 😁#fanjingshan #guizhou

Getting There - Train to Tongren station (Guizhou), then a 1.5hr drive to the scenic area. There are drivers waiting around the entrance who will eagerly take you to Fangjingshan. We organised with our hotel in advance for 60rmb per person. Attractions - Gorgeous mountains views. Don’t go on a public holiday. We thought it wouldn’t be as popular as other sites, but it took us 3 hours of lining up to get in. The cable car line up was then an additional 2hr wait, so we opted to hike up instead (so peaceful!) Hotels - stay at the base of the mountain, not in Tongren city as it will take all day to explore the mountain. Food & Restaurants - bring food with you. Options are limited once you enter the scenic area. #mountainview

Fanjingshan, in northern Guizhou province is one of China’s unique sights. A pillar of rock surrounded by mountain viewpoints with a temple on top, it’s well worth the trip out there to see.🏔 Head out early morning for a chance to see the clouds all around you #guizhou #drone

As part of the Wuling Mountain range in the southwest of China (namely, Guizhou province), Fanjing Mountain is one of the key attractions there. It was named as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2018, and is quite a striking landscape to look at. You've probably seen it pop up when looking at pictures of Guizhou in China. The most striking feature about this mountain is the singular tall spire that extends more than 100 meters above the surrounding mountaintops. At the top of this spire sits two temples that are sepearated by a narrow gorge and connected by a bridge. We had hoped to see this site on a day with clear weather, unfortunately we were out of luck and on the day of our visit it was super misty and raining! But that still didn't deter us from climbing to the top of that spire, even if just to say we had done it. #momentsmission

Mount Fanjing is an amazing art of nature and human beings. Here, you will be surprised by not only those different shapes of Layer-by-layer ancient rocks(the most famous one is mushroom rock, god knows how long it take to form like this), but also those super steep hilltops( 老金顶Ancient Hilltop & 红云金顶Red-cloud Hilltop, both hilltop with ancient temples, wonder how the ancients get to build temple there). From the mountain top, you can also enjoy the valleys, one of my favorite. Visiting Mount Fanjing was a truly surreal experience and I would recommend it to everyone. We got a train from Guiyang to Tongren early in the morning (6am-7.34am) and quickly checked into our hotel. We then got a taxi to the site which took an hour and cost 220rmb. We arrived at 10am and walked to the ticket office. We paid 260rmb for a ticket that included entry, shuttle bus passes and cable car journeys. I would recommend this ticket type as the journey to the top was very long! I would also recommend arriving a lot earlier than we did, we waited about 2 hours to get off the cable cars due to very long queues. The site itself is open from 6am. The mountain itself is absolutely breathtaking. There are multiple temples, peaks and summits to explore as well as the outstanding views. The star of the show has to be the Red Cloud Golden Peak summit which is home to two Buddhist temples with a stone bridge connecting them. The temples are 2336m above sea level, it’s incredible to see! We spent 4 hours exploring the site, it’s a lot of walking and climbing so wear sensible shoes. You are also extremely high up so the weather is much cooler and it rained. I would recommend taking a rain coat and jumper. Once you have completed your trip and reached the car park, you are spoilt for choice with restaurants. It is also very easy to get a taxi back into Tongren. #hiking #naturalwonders #summervacation

Close to the realm of immortals, overlooking the mortal world... Walking through the morning mist, falling into the evening clouds... The world holds ultimate beauty, only those destined can witness it, just like the sunlight of Fanjing Mountain, the sea of clouds... all require perfect timing. I am extremely fortunate, waking up to a drizzle in the morning, thinking I would definitely miss the true face of Fanjing Mountain, only able to catch glimpses through the mist. Before dawn, I set out from the hotel (staying in Zhaisha Dong Village), about a 30-minute walk to the entrance of the scenic area. When I arrived, the rain had stopped. Entering the scenic area, I walked to the sightseeing car stop, took the car to the cable car entrance, and halfway up the mountain by cable car, I encountered the stretching sea of clouds, dreamlike and illusory, with clouds rising from the forest, ascending, flowing, dispersing. Getting off the cable car, I had already reached the 2100-meter-high Wanbao Rock (the hiking route requires climbing 6300 steps), from Wanbao Rock continue upwards past the Meditation Pool, Dragon and Phoenix Pavilion, Heaven Street, and then further up to the fork in the road, one side leading to Pudu Plaza to the Red Cloud Golden Summit, the other side to Cheng'en Temple, Mushroom Rock to the Old Golden Summit. I climbed the Golden Summit three times, first ascending the Red Cloud Golden Summit. Because it was early, the fog was heavy, and I couldn't see anything. I then came down and climbed the Old Golden Summit. The moment I turned around at Mushroom Rock, the fog over the Red Cloud Golden Summit dispersed, the clouds floated, and the Sakyamuni Hall and Maitreya Hall appeared faintly through the mist, like the realm of immortals, elusive. Therefore, to avoid regrets, after climbing the Old Golden Summit, I climbed the Red Cloud Golden Summit again. By then, it was completely clear, and under the bright daylight, the two Golden Summits were even more magnificent and stunning, with the mountain roads winding and the rocks layered, as if falling into the realm of immortals. Route 1. East Gate: Sightseeing car 20min—Cable car 30min—Continue upwards by climbing wooden walkways and stone steps to Red Cloud Golden Summit and Old Golden Summit (East line has cable car, convenient transportation, suitable for all ages) 2. West Gate: West line has no cable car, suitable for outdoor enthusiasts with a certain level of fitness, it is a pure hiking route, requiring walking the entire way. 📷Must-visit spots: 1. Mushroom Rock: The iconic spot of Fanjing Mountain, with a unique shape, very spectacular. 2. Wanjuan Book: Located near Mushroom Rock, the entire mountain is layered and orderly stacked 3. Red Cloud Golden Summit: The city in the sky, at an altitude of 2336 meters, requires climbing nearly 90° vertical steep mountain roads through a narrow path to reach the Red Cloud Golden Summit, which is divided into two, one side worshipping Sakyamuni, the other side worshipping Maitreya. Surrounded by mist, it feels like being in a fairyland 4. Old Golden Summit: Also known as 'Moon Mirror Mountain', at an altitude of 2494m, also requires climbing steep stones to reach the summit, and if lucky, one can see the Buddha's light. There is an ancient Buddha Lamp Hall on the summit. Tips 1. Must book in advance, no booking means no access! Tickets cannot be bought on-site!; Must arrive early, Fanjing Mountain is too popular, if you go late, you will start queuing from the entrance of the scenic area, and later taking the sightseeing car, cable car, climbing will all require queuing to the point of collapse, so try to be in the first wave going up the mountain. 2. Check the weather, if it rains or fogs, you probably won't see anything clearly, and the weather on Fanjing Mountain changes frequently, the foot of the mountain, the waist of the mountain, and the summit may have different weather, please remember to bring rain gear, and the elderly and children should carry a thin coat to keep warm. 3. During peak season, Red Cloud Golden Summit will open for reservation to climb, it is recommended to start scanning the code to reserve as soon as you enter the mountain gate. 4. Both Golden Summits of Fanjing Mountain require climbing a section of extremely steep steps that only allow one person to pass at a time, be sure to pay attention to safety, and do not block the road to take photos, which will cause congestion behind.
