Jiayuguan Gliding Base is located in the Great Wall Civil Aviation Airport, 12 kilometers away from the urban area. It is one of the three ideal places for gliding in the world as well as in Australia and South Africa. In 1987, France first discovered Jiayuguan updraft through meteorological satellite. In order to promote the development of gliding, the National Sports Commission has established a gliding base in Jiayuguan through a large number of investigation and demonstration.
