The main body of the Unknown Soldiers Memorial is the Unknown Soldiers relief, an ancient Greek warrior wearing a helmet lying on a slab. On both sides of the reliefs are two famous words: "This is the tomb of the world's outstanding soldiers", "is the spiritual bed for the unnamed soldiers". The reliefs are inscribed with 11 place names on the bottom left and 12 on the bottom right, all places where the Greek army and the foreign-army have fought in history. Every hour, a presidential guard change ceremony is held in front of the unnamed martyr's tomb between the square and the parliament. On Sundays and official holidays, most guards participate in the changing of guard and are accompanied by military bands.
