Really enjoyed America's Oldest Public Park. It began in 1634. We saw the Make Way for Ducklings statues here. It is the jumping off point for the Freedom Trail (although it is possible to begin the trail at any location). Yes, we did see many homeless while walking thru, and driving by a few times on the HOHO bus tour and Duckboat Tour. They don't seem to bother anyone, but did want to mention it. As far as children "seeing" homeless people-I personally think it is a good chance to have a conversation with your children about respecting other humans. In its pre-church "life," it was a Granary (like, as in a place to put grain). It bordered the "Granary Burial Ground" which is still there today, as a piece of our American history, as well as the final resting place (more or less, who can tell, really?) of many Patriots. But the church is the focus here. The site was a workhouse/almshouse/prison and insane asylum/granary situated next to the burying ground. Excellent placement in many minds, I would guess, with the burial grounds so close. In 1809 plans called for the total tear-down of this 1729 past-its-prime edifice. The next phase was the construction of this church (pretty much as it looks today except for a slightly shortened steeple due to stability issues) and it was the hot bed for fiery sermons about hell and brimstone. But there was more to the "brimstone" than the church let on. This was known as "Brimstone Corner" as much for the minister as it was for an ammunition magazine. In the crypt, the Patriots stored sulphur for the explosives needed in warfare. Who knew? The church has a strong sense of right and wrong and serves the community. It espoused positions for human rights, justice, and anti-slavery. The first time "My country tis of thee" was ever sung, it was sung in this church. Make some time to stop in. The visit is free. If you haven't tried Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall in Boston, plan a trip. Amazing staff, quirky rooms, great restaurant and perfect location. Took the T Blue Line from Logan to State Street, walked across the street and to the hotel. Had great service from the front desk to the staff in the restaurant, and when I found a cheaper rate for a colleague for one of the nights I stayed, the front desk immediately adjusted my bill to the current rate, 30% off! I'm here for a business meeting -- while this property doesn't have a dedicated meeting room, they did configure a suite for our small group. I didn't have high expectations, as I've been to a lot of blah and uncomfortable meeting rooms (and lots of them in Boston), but Whitney exceeded expectations. . . it's perfect! The suite was beautiful, with a view of the river, some Beacon Hill -- even the T station had its charm as part of the view. Daylight (as opposed to a windowless meeting room) makes all the difference during the day. I'm not sure how the actual stay was (I'm local to the area, so I didn't stay overnight, damn it), what kind of bed, etc but waking up to the view had to be amazing. The bathroom was very well done, the living area in the suite was comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful, anywhere in the hotel. My only caveat is to take advantage of one of Boston's many fine restaurants -- the hotel restaurant has a few things in my opinion. It's great to be on Charles Street -- this area has more charm than any other Boston area. You can walk to shops, bars, restaurants and still an easy walk to Common and even Newbury/Boylston. Next time we have a meeting, I will definitely make an excuse to stay! This would be my first recommendation for anyone visiting Boston (and as a local, that's a thumbs up). Stayed here with my daughter the week leading up to her dorm move-in day and we loved it. Because of the nature of it being a motor lodge setup (and the large quantity of college students that particular week), the hallways could get a little noisy at times, but it was generally brief. Hotel is cool and on trend, lots of fun rock memorabilia everywhere. LOVED having a record player in our room and made use of it (and the free bottled water and free Nitro-Brew in the lobby) daily. Very good sushi restaurant on site with live music. Walking distance form the Berklee/Boston Conservatory Campus (and I think Boston University.) Lots of shopping and dining choices extremely close by and, of course, Fenway stadium is right behind the hotel if you are in Boston for a game. Great staff, fun environment. I choose this hotel for the extra room rather than taking a hotel downtown that would be smaller, more expensive and not offer the free breakfast. Unfortunately the breakfast omelette bar open and happy hour were not in operation due to Covid. The breakfast area was spacious. There was hot options and plenty of food. Some more fruit options (apples) would have been nice. The hotel has a shuttle to/from the airport. There is a very nice and extensive park in front of the hotel. There are several restaurants in the area. If you want to get a beautiful view of the Boston harbor/skyline, it is only a 15-20 minute walk (just past the Maverick train station. The location allowed easy access to the MBTA (train/subway). One way ticket was $2.40. It only took about 5-10 minutes to get down to the wharf area (direct line). The hotel was very clean. The pool is not big but functional. The staff was friendly. If you have a car, the parking is very expensive (mandatory valet parking). You can park for a couple of hours at the park in front of the hotel of a short time meets your needs. It was about $37 for 3 hours.
