Stunning place to visit! We only went to baodingshan carvings which are supposed to be the best otherwise you need the entire day to see them all. We spent about 3 hours here. The place is peaceful and very beautiful to walk around although some gates were closed. overall I highly recommend this place!

In the Dazu district of China these famous stone Carvings are very detailed and mesmerizing. The entrance fee is less than $15 USD and is worth Evey penny. Most are fairly well preserved. This is a great place to visit for history lovers. #merrychristmas #merrychristmas

A not to be missed attraction, the Beishan Stone Carvings deserve to be much more famous than they are, we had never heard about them until we visited the area. They are worth the visit. Be aware that if you hire a guide they may also want to take you on a shopping tour, be firm when you say you do not want to do that. #merrychristmas #merrychristmas

Dazu Rock Carvings is located in Chongqing City, with Dazu District, Yinan County, Tongliang County and Daishan County as the scope, where you can enjoy the art of stone carvings representing the Tang and Song Dynasties. Because of its location in the mountains of the Chinese mainland, the traffic in the past was inconvenient, and the catastrophe and man-made destruction of the wars of the past were spared. There are more than 70 stone carvings in the stone carving group, totaling more than 100,000 bodies. Among them, the Baoding Mountain and the Beishan Cliff Stone Carvings are the most famous. The Buddhist statues are the main ones. The Confucianism and Taoism statues are the model of the late Chinese cave art. The scale is grand, the art is exquisite, and the content is rich. It can be the same as the four major Chinese caves such as Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, Yungang Grottoes, Longmen Grottoes, and Maiji Mountain Grottoes. Among them, the statue of Baodingshan Moya was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. The Buddha statues are carved on the mountain rocks within 2.5 km, including the statues of Dafo Bay and Xiaofowan centered on Shengshou Temple. The Dazu Dafo Bay is the main body, followed by Xiaofowan, which is distributed in the east, south and north. More than 360 giant carvings, with six reincarnations, the majority of Baolou, Huayan three icons, a thousand Guanyin and so on.

The Maiji Mountain Grottoes, Mogao Grottoes, is the world's first world cultural heritage in the selection of grottoes. Chongqing Dazu Rock Carvings, containing about 75 grottoes, more than 50,000 Buddha statues, representing the highest level of world grotto art in the 9th-13th centuries. The Dazu Rock Carvings began in the early Tang Dynasty in the 7th century and reached its peak in the Song Dynasty. The Dazu Rock Carvings were listed in the World Cultural Heritage in 1999. Dazu County in the Tang Dynasty, belonging to Changzhou. In 885, the state capital of Changzhou moved to Dazu County, which also led to the development of all aspects of Dazu. The Dazu Rock Carvings were completed from this time until nearly 1400 AD in 1279. The Dazu Rock Carvings are distributed on five hills in Beishan, Baodingshan, Nanshan, Shiqishan and Shimenshan.
