The Mercato Centrale was once "just" the main central food market. A few years ago it underwent an incredible transformation into the indoor, beautiful, contemporary market that it is today. On the first floor you will find food vendors selling all of what you hope to find in Tuscany. The second floor houses a giant "food court" with a bar, coffee, delis, a vegan/vegetarian place, even a place that makes gluten free panini. And a store for supporters of the local soccer team. And a little bookstore. I could go on and on. Go take a walk through!
Typical Italian market- terrific! Try the balsamic vinegars and cheeses. And if you're hungry, there's a stall against one wall selling fried seafood. I'm not usually a fan of fried food, but I had to go back the next day to get more- it was just so fresh and delicious!
This is one of the best food markets we visited in Europe. Try the wood fired pizza, black truffle pasta, cannoli, and wine.
One of my favorite shopping stops during our visit. Full of wonderful food and a few places for a light lunch.
Absolutely delicious food!... Cheap and most tasty. Try the meat sandwiches downstairs and the truffle counter upstairs.
Make sure to visit the upstairs section.
