Jinxi, The Hometown of Folk Museums in China
Jinxi is located in Jiangsu Province, China, It is a well-known historical town with a history of more than 2,000 years. We drove to Jinxi from Suzhou (about 23 km). Jinxi is also known as Chenmu, which means the tomb of Chen. There is a touchy story about Chen, the concubine of the emperor Xiaozong. Find online for details. Jinxi is a
wonderfully delicate watery town. It is surrounded by clear water and many waterways snaking through the town. Jinxi has 36 bridges and 72 brick kilns. Gulian bridge is the most eye catching bridge among others. There are a lot of museums in Jinxi with delicate articrafts. You can complete the entire place within half day if you start visiting there early morning. You can also plan to check the other two nearby water towns `Zhouzhuang` (China`s no.1 water town) and Tongli.

Jiangnan Water Town is rich in ancient towns: Jasper Zhouzhuang, rich soil Tongli, Fengqing straight, Mengli Xitang, Shuige Wuzhen have their own advantages, and are favored by tourists, but I only have a special liking for Jinxi Ancient Town. She was born in the gentle waters of the south of the Yangtze River, fading away from the commercial prosperity, leaving the simplicity and elegance alone.
The town in the early morning is immersed in the dream, pushing open the red door of the bed and the mottled wooden door. The smoke shop on both sides of the street is not open yet. I walked through the melody of the bird, passed through the unmanned stone road, and met the ancient lotus pond. The lotus flower that just showed sharp corners, the glory of the morning sun just sprinkled, and the ancient lotus bridge not far away outlined the classical silhouette of the hollow, a breeze passed, and the message of early summer came.

Qiandeng Ancient Town Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
How extraordinary it is to be rated as the number one water town in the south of the Yangtze River by 'National Geographic'
As one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, Zhouzhuang Ancient Town is built along the river, with bridges and streets connected, resembling a natural landscape painting. Imagine walking on the bluestone path with an oil-paper umbrella on a rainy day, watching the small bridges over flowing water and the households, at this moment, you are not just viewing the scenery; you are part of it. It's as if time stands still at this moment, the commercialization of the town is not so intense, what remains is the homely atmosphere of the alleys. If one day you don't feel like going to work, why not take a stroll in this water town of the south of the Yangtze River.
Suzhou, you're not being fair, hiding such a beautiful ancient town | Qiandeng Ancient Town
Qiandeng Ancient Town is located in Kunshan, Jiangsu, originally named "Qiandun", which emerged from the Wu-Yue rivalry. The town is not large, covering only a few square kilometers, but it has a long history of nearly 2500 years. Gu Yanwu, a thinker from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, was born here. Gu Yanwu's former residence is unassuming from the outside, with a quiet and tidy courtyard, but the further inside you go, the more imposing it becomes. The five-entry architectural layout highlights the depth and grandeur of the residence.

Qiandeng Ancient Town
Qiandeng Ancient Town
The first stop of my leisure year card return plan is Qiandeng Ancient Town.
The leisure year card is about to expire, and I haven't used it once. So the first stop is Qiandeng Ancient Town.
There are not many people in Qiandeng on weekdays, and the attractions feel quite scattered, one here and another there.
Summary as follows:
Gu Yanwu's former residence is ok
Gu Yanwu's former residence is really big, and the garden is also super big, it's quite nice for taking photos. Most of the time was spent walking around inside. However, the road in front of the door is under construction, so you have to take a big detour.
Qiandeng Lamp Museum is ok
Inside, there are many lamps from different eras, from the Han Dynasty to the Republic of China, really a thousand lamps, it's quite interesting. Those interested can take a look, there is a courtyard inside that is very nice for taking photos.
Ancient Opera Stage
A place to listen to Kunqu opera, not much to do with 'ancient'. It's nice to go listen when you are tired of walking.
Yu's Pawnshop
The pawnshop at the entrance is quite interesting, you can see what pawnshops looked like in the past, but the inside is very average, there is a strange stone exhibition and Xu Fu's former residence together.
Qinfeng Tower is ok
Located in a temple, the temple is very big. It's nice to wander around inside. There is a jade reclining Buddha, with a compassionate appearance, seems to be in the style of the Tang Dynasty.
Gu Jian Memorial Hall
Gu Jian is the ancestor of Kunqu opera, but the memorial hall is really small. However, what's thoughtful is that there is a sensor for explanations in each exhibition hall. As you approach the door, the introduction starts, and listening to the explanations will give you a better understanding.

Enjoyable Birthday Stay at Dusit Thani!
We had a great staycation over the weekend to celebrate a birthday and a surprise proposal! The concierge team was very kind and helpful with the preparation. Thanks to Mr Muzaffar and his team! It is definitely a night to remember forever!
The first floor room had easy access to the swimming pool with a small terrace of our own. But the sound of the airplane passing by can be a bit loud, so would not recommend the first floor to those who are sensitive to sound during sleep.
Otherwise it was a great escape from the city :)

Xin Yuan Ji - Singapore
📍 31 Tan Quee Lan St, #01-01, 188117
Fish steamboat and fish bee hoon are common food in Singapore. And Xin Yuan Ji is one of the famous stores here.
The store is located around Bugis. It was my favourite lunch the first two weeks when I came to Singapore. I liked to have bee hoon here and it's quite to my taste. 🥣
For those who want a simple meal, a been hoon would be perfect. I would recommend fried fish meat or fried fish head bee hoon. Sliced fish is not so good to my taste. I like fish head more, and add fried egg. 🥚Fried egg is nice, too, you should try.
Steamboat here is also famous but I haven't try. Here is cash only. And they will ask you if you want milk in the soup. 🥛For me milk is the essence for the soup so definitely yes. 😋

A perfect spot for a spring day outing with kids: catching a glimpse of a young lady in Hanfu!
Spring weekend is a great time, so I took the kids out in their Hanfu! ☀️
We went to Xiemao Bridge in Qiandeng Town, Kunshan, which is just an hour's drive from Shanghai. It's a newly popular small ancient town, not very big, not crowded, and not overly commercialized yet. You can enjoy a nice walk along the river and experience the charm of an original ancient town.
There are many coffee shops ☕️ and tea houses 🍵 along the river, each with its own unique character. Some have a modern Chinese design style, and they are all very photogenic. It's a great place for young ladies in Hanfu to take photos and check in!
If you get tired, you can find a small tea house, order a pot of tea, and sit for half a day, which is also a nice choice.
Take advantage of the current low crowd levels and free parking, and come for a visit soon!
Weekend | Escape the hustle and bustle
Escape the hustle and bustle. Xiemabridge, located in Qiandeng Town, Kunshan, is just an hour's drive from Shanghai. I first discovered this little village because of a branch of Yichi Garden opening here, thinking of taking the dog baby to check in on the weekend. It was only upon arrival that I realized this small town gave me a different feeling, which I quite liked.
❣️ There are no streets full of stinky tofu or cries of grass head cakes here, what you find is tranquility and comfort. Each shop built along the river is beautifully decorated, with cafes, tea rooms, guesthouses, carpentry workshops, bookstores... all exuding an artistic and literary atmosphere.
❣️ The Yichi Garden store at Xiemabridge is also elegantly set, with the style of an ancient house matching the ambiance of the old town perfectly. Ordering a cup of coffee, admiring the beautiful scenery, and enjoying delicious food, how wonderful is that.
❣️ On the weekend, why not find a mini-town, choose a courtyard, have a cup of coffee, and escape the city's noise?
Xiemabridge Village
The quaint Xiemaoqiao Village is refreshing and comfortable
After several days of overcast and rainy weather, we finally welcomed a beautiful day. Early in the morning, I arrived at Xiemaoqiao Village in Kunshan, which is a 50-minute drive from Shanghai. The entire ancient village is fresh and tranquil, with few tourists. Walking on the bluestone path by the river, I was surrounded by greenery.
The ancient village is not very large, and it takes about 1 hour to stroll around. For dining, there is Baisheng's home at the entrance of the village, where you can order dishes or have noodles. There are many coffee shops and tea rooms by the river, so there's no need to fret. Compared to Yichi Garden, the riverside coffee shops are more leisurely. For example, at Yincha Bureau, you can order a pot of tea and bask in the sun by the river to while away an afternoon.
The small village of Xiemabridge in early spring
Xiemabridge Village is located in Kunshan, Jiangsu. According to the 'Songnan Records', the bridge was named 'Xiemabridge' because it was built by calculating the work of the stone drivers and resting the horses. Folklore has it that Han Shizhong, a famous general of the Southern Song Dynasty, once rested his troops here. Due to the abundant water and grass, Han Shizhong's men rested and nourished their war horses here. To facilitate travel between the two sides of the Shipu River, they built a bridge over the river, and the bridge was called Xiemabridge at that time.
