We had to go up to Paloma to see the observatory/telenocope. Wonderful history, rich visitor center and good viewing room with observatory range and mount. If we visited on summer weekends, we will take this trip. Now I see the largest radio telescope (Arecibo), the largest mirror (Hale / Palomar), and the largest refractor (Yerkes). My wife will be excited when I fill out the next travel details.

Great day Trip, bring a lunch, take a hike around the Observatory. Check out the Hale Telescope, still in use.Very educational.
This observatory is an active research facility. But it is open to the public seven days a week. There are self-guided tours and behind the scene tours. Also a gift shop. If you're taking a drive up to Palomar Mountain be sure and go to the top!
Great place to learn about the stars, planets and see them from this world famous Observatory.
The world famous Palomar Observatory is a short drive from The Lodge on Palomar Mountain.
