Although Penang can be described as a Chinese city today, three separate areas in the city can be called Chinatown. They have developed at different times in the city's history and can be called the old Chinatown, the new Chinatown and the Chinese trade block. Even the new Chinatown is more than 130 years old. In addition to these three blocks, the seven blocks within the Penang Heritage Enclave and Armenian Street are today also the Chinese neighborhood of Penang.
