Jim Thompson House Museum Review

I went there on December 25, 2017. Perhaps most Chinese tourists are impressed by the Grand Palace, Jade Buddha Temple, King Zheng Temple, Siam Square and Kaoshan Road. In fact, "Kim Thompson House" is also a scenic spot full of Thai local characteristics. We strongly recommend that you visit it. Jim Thompson from the United States is a very famous international friend in the modern history of Thailand. He promoted traditional Thai silk to the international market and became a well-known Thai handicraft product overseas. Jim Thompson brand has also become a synonym for high-quality Thai silk. Naturally, "Gold Thompson House" is a Thai Silk Museum, where a panoramic display of the traditional Thai silk handicraft industry, as well as many beautiful Thai silk fabrics. In addition to various exhibits, the museum also arranged for a man, a woman and two staff members to demonstrate silk reeling scene at the entrance. The female staff member is also a dancer, performing traditional Thai dances at half-time, graceful dance posture, is a small pleasant performance. The Museum is actually King Thompson's former residence in Bangkok, where the original home environment of Mr. King's life is basically preserved. Various exhibitions allow visitors to intuitively understand his legendary life. The former residence itself is also an exhibition of traditional Thai architecture, "Mr. King" collected several traditional Thai buildings "high-feet houses" from the periphery of the old Thai capital city, and joined them into the present villa in Bangkok. Mr. King only added interior details to meet the needs of modern life, such as lighting, to preserve the tradition of Thai houses as much as possible, so the villa looks very traditional, very Thai. The Museum area is divided into square, restaurant and Exhibition hall. Squares and restaurants are open to the public free of charge. Entry to the exhibition hall requires tickets (ordinary adult ticket 150 baht, less than 22-year-old tourist ticket 100 baht), and must be guided by a guide to visit the designated route. There are guides in Thai, English, Chinese and Japanese. They can give visitors a detailed account of Mr. Kim's life and various displays of the former residence. I naturally follow the Chinese guide, who studies Chinese at Beijing University. His spoken Chinese is very fluent, and the arrangement of the line is very reasonable, so that tourists can see all the areas in the villa at a glance. The transportation to the museum is convenient. Visitors can take the BTS and get off at the National Stadium on Silom Line or Ratchathewi on Sukhumvit Line, and walk about 300 meters and 650 meters respectively.
