The most famous church in Vittoriosa was first built in 1436. In 1530, the Order of St. John was stationed in this small town, and this church was the first monastery church used by the head of the regiment. There is a cross in the church, said to have been transported from Crete in 1657 as a loot. There is a statue of freedom in front of the church to commemorate Malta's independence from British colonial rule.
