Nanxi River, a national scenic area known for its mountain and countryside scenery, is only 50 kilometers away from the highly developed city of Wenzhou, yet it presents a completely different face, like a hermit hidden in the city. A 3-day tour in winter, although it coincided with continuous overcast weather, making the photos less than ideal, the experience was not diminished, especially when compared to Beijing, the difference in air quality is huge. The tour is centered around Yantou Town, where I stayed for several days, and you can either drive yourself or hire a car in the town. The 3-day itinerary includes, in addition to Yantou, 7 other ancient villages and 4 mountains, none of which are very strenuous to climb, with each mountain taking no more than 2 hours to ascend and descend Twelve Peaks A group of peaks rise up like pillars, crowded and staggered, creating a beautiful disorder; Cliff Bottom Storehouse An eighty-meter cliff has a plank road built upon it, as well as a glass platform, which looks dangerous, but is actually not difficult to walk the entire way; Daitou Village This ancient village ranks first in my Nanxi River itinerary, sitting under the big camphor tree at the entrance of the village, it feels like being in another world. Linkeng The most famous and mature ancient village, possibly because I missed the drying season, my experience was not good; Yubei Village A very simple ancient village, with the Shangshu Shrine, Yubei Armed Uprising Monument, and many slogans left from the past, witnessing history and time together, ranking just after Daitou Village in my list; Xikou Xikou Village produced a family in the Southern Song Dynasty that had 'four generations of scholars from one family', including Dai Meng and Dai Tong, who were famous Neo-Confucian scholars at the time; Cangpo The architecture in the village is full of cultural connotations, incorporating inspirations from the Four Treasures of the Chinese study; Furong Village Furong ancient village can be described as 'Nanxi River has no art gallery, the village itself is an art gallery', with a pavilion built on the water echoing the distant mountains, showing a spiritual aura. Shiwei Rock A giant peak that resembles a ship's mast, hence the name Shiwei Rock, is considered a landmark of Nanxi River; Longwan Pool The highlight is the 'Sevenfold Waterfall', with seven pools and seven waterfalls connected, making a spectacular sight; Pengxi Village In the village, there is a Kang Le Pavilion, commemorating the villagers' ancestor Kang Le Gong Xie Lingyun, and outside the village, there is a recently popular internet-famous waterfall. On Yantou Town, there are Ta Mountain Park, a church; Lishui Ancient Street (15 yuan for a ticket, free after 5 pm), all worth a visit. 🎫Tickets: All the above mountains require tickets, some villages also have tickets ranging from 10 to 20 yuan, some are free.

Hidden in the secret realm of mountains and rivers, the Nanxi River Gorge in Wenzhou, a lesser-known spot in southern Zhejiang, is home to the solitary peak and giant rock that rises abruptly from the ground. Standing at 306 meters tall and resembling a ship's mast, it is aptly named 'Shimao Rock' and is also known as the 'Pillar of Southern Zhejiang'. However, what's even more extraordinary is that nine peaks, ranging in height from 100 to 200 meters and varying in shape, surround and protect Shimao Rock. Like stars holding up the moon, they cluster around this 'Pillar of Southern Zhejiang'. The surrounding area is also bordered by streams on three sides, with steep cliffs, green pines, and ancient vines adding to the beauty. It can be described as possessing the qualities of being 'majestic', 'strange', 'dangerous', 'elegant', and 'secluded'. First met Nanxi River in the poems of thousands of years ago. More than 1600 years ago, due to the ascension of the young emperor and the power of the eunuchs, the politically poetic Xie Lingyun, who was marginalized and demoted, served as the prefect of Yongjia. In a flat boat, with his robe fluttering, he stayed in Nanxi River. Xie Lingyun, who 'has no conventional charm and naturally loves hills and mountains', encountered the 'beautiful water, peculiar rocks, and numerous waterfalls' of the pastoral landscape, expressed his feelings through the landscape, and inadvertently became the founder of the landscape poetry school. After arriving in Yongjia, you can first take a shuttle bus to Yantou Town, the transportation hub of Nanxi River Scenic Area, and then go to various scenic spots. The shuttle bus from Yantou Town to various scenic spots is infrequent and the interval is long, which is a waste of time. Nestled against the mountains and by the water, the air is fresh, quiet and comfortable, and you can even see the twinkling stars✨

The Nanxi River Scenic Area in Yongjia has a vast territory and scattered attractions. It's impossible to visit all in one day, and it's best to drive by yourself. Most tourists come from Wenzhou, this time we drove in the opposite direction. We took the Yan-Nan highway (Da Boshan Road), and the first stop was the innermost Shitingyan Scenic Area. There are east and west gates, Gaode indicates more to the west gate, so we didn't turn at the east gate intersection and went straight to the west gate. But it was wrong! The west gate parking lot is small, no cars, no people, and only two of us entered the scenic area. From the entrance to the core area, you need to go through the small mountain gorge (the scenery is average), and walk three or four more miles. The core area has a cruise ship (said to be free) that can cross to the back of the rock for sightseeing, or you can climb Shitingyan to overlook. Almost all tourists enter from the east gate (the two gates are 5 kilometers apart), and the east gate is only 240 meters away from here. The Nanxi River Scenic Area has three core ancient towns (streets), and you can buy a joint ticket. There are many tourists and few parking spaces, but you can park anywhere on the side of the road. The ancient town is accessible in all directions, and there is no need to charge. The first Cangpo Ancient Village, honestly buy a ticket (5 yuan), there is a pond in the village and some old buildings. The second Lishui Ancient Street does not buy, the long street along the river is very long, this is still a scene. The Furong Ancient Town did not go. On the way, I passed the Guolu Beach (Figure 14), stopped for a rest, the scenery was good, there were bamboo rafts, picnics, camping and other activities. The last stop is Yongjia Academy. After seeing the natural landscape, ancient villages and streets, I wanted to see the cultural landscape. As a result, the academy was built on the background of the Yongjia school and the foundation of business culture, integrating landscape, leisure, and communication. The scenic area covers an area of 5,000 acres, about one kilometer on foot (5 yuan for electric cars), and a hundred meters of anchor steps along the Jin Valley stream, until the end of the Jinzhu waterfall. Going further up is the mountain tour area, and expansion projects such as swings, drifting, camping, etc. have also been developed. There is a Yongjia Xueguan built along the trail, which can undertake accommodation, meetings and other activities. It takes about an hour to drive out of the scenic area and return to Wenzhou city by highway.

The Nanxi River basin is famous far and wide for its beautiful water, unique rocks, numerous waterfalls, ancient villages, and beautiful sandy forests.
