I rented a bicycle from Guanabikers in January 2024 for a two week tour. While Mauricio and Rudy were efficient and easy to deal with and the Specialized hard tail mountain bike they provided was appropriate for the terrain, the bicycle was very poorly maintained to the point of being dangerous. I would not rent from Guanabikers again and strongly recommend that you first explore any other options you may have. Issues with the bike included: -The drive train jammed frequently, especially in the small front ring while going uphill, likely due to wear, dirt, poor maintenance and using the wrong speed chain;-In the highest gear on the cassette one of the spokes ticked against a screw in the back of the low-end Tourney derailleur. This was likely either because the screw was too big, or because at least one of the spokes had been crossed the wrong way, or both;-The rack had only one support attaching the top of it to the frame, not the normal two, and the bracket was attached with just one screw at each end (where the support attaches to the rack I would usually use two). Rudy assured me it would be okay, and it was until about day eight when it came apart going down a hill and the fully loaded rack fell backwards and froze the back wheel. I took the failure as an opportunity to attach the rack better (I carried spare screws and zip ties), but it still had just the one support and I was unsuccessful in attempts to find another one in local stores. Luckily it held together for the rest of the trip;-There was no grease whatsoever in one of the SPD pedals and the pedal spun freely with none of the friction that there should be for a smooth pedal stroke. The other pedal was marginally better. I could go on. Bottom line is that for the price the bike badly failed to meet expectations.
