What travelers say:

Founded in 1939, the National Library of Iran accepted the collection of books from the original public library. Several private libraries, including many Persian manuscripts, were purchased. In 1941, the National Library received 600 volumes from Iranian and Russian banks, and a large collection from the German government. Its buildings were not able to keep up with the needs of its collection and staff growth after several expansions. Before the Islamic Revolution, the lack of professional librarians in Iran's library development was not rapid. After the revolution, the Pahlev Library was merged into the National Library, and after 1983, the Tehran Library was merged into the National Library, and qualified staff were merged into the National Library.
