The staff were very friendly, welcoming & very efficient. They took the time to go out of their way to make us comfortable.
The lift & room was just a little bit older around the edges, but still very good! The bed was heavenly-soft & lovely, we just wish we'd had time to rest & relax more than one night in Wellington!

Exploring our one precious worldStayed one night at James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor for a conference held onsite.
Check-in staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel has three separate lift banks servicing different areas — if you’re unfamiliar with Wellington, definitely ask staff to explain the easiest exit route to the city. It makes a big difference.
Breakfast was a very large buffet with plenty of options, though I’ve experienced better quality elsewhere.
The hotel itself is older but has solid bones. Perfectly adequate for a work overnight stay. For personal travel I’d probably choose somewhere with more atmosphere, however it felt safe and comfortable.
One odd feature: some rooms face an internal terrace/window area — remember to close your curtains as people can see straight in.
Bed was clean and well made, the room was tidy, though the carpet is showing its age. The shower had excellent pressure and plenty of hot water — a highlight.
Overall: reliable, practical conference accommodation rather than a destination stay.

Location-wise, it's right by Wellington train station, making it a great choice if you're arriving by train or heading to London.
Facilities: They're quite old. The air conditioning was one of those large, vintage units I'd never seen before, and it was incredibly noisy, so I just turned it off. The room had a microwave and cutlery, and surprisingly, a mini-bar – which you usually don't find in hotels at this price point. However, there was a snag: no price list for the mini-bar. While I knew the bottled water in the fridge wouldn't be free, I was still surprised to be charged $7 upon checkout (when a similar bottle is around $2.50 at the supermarket).
Service: The downstairs restaurant has long operating hours. I was able to order a delicious burger after a late check-in, and grab a coffee and a pastry to go during an early checkout. Most of my positive impression comes from that restaurant.

The room is actually not as big as the picture, but the sanitation is very good. The front desk is very friendly and always provides the help you need. On the first day, I gave me a map of the city. After 2 days, I measured the seaside streets and piers with my feet. It is even more friendly for passengers taking the Airport Express AX. Under the intersection of Manners Street and Willis Street, walk south on the right hand side of the uphill road. Tea and coffee tubes are enough, and chocolate. I can't drink coffee anymore, I drink chocolate, and the hotel also prepared a large cup for me intimately. Very close to Cuba Street, in fact, not far from where to go. When I left, Beth happened to be off work, went home and drove BYD, took me to the airport, and turned a corner to see the filming place of the Lord of the Rings. Really friendly. If I go to Wellington again, I will definitely choose their home.

Guest UserConvenient location near main restaurant areas, like Cuba Street, in Wellington. Easy to get an Uber to the airport if you have an early morning flight. Comfortable rooms which are also clean, although many don’t have windows.

The room had multiple areas of built up dust that hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, and the shower had some mould in the corner and lots of soap scum around the bottles. The silicone holes in the shower head were all cracked and so the water dribbled down. I could also smell the drain. The additional windows installed (appreciate the building is historical) didn’t shut tight, which is a big problem in a windy city. The wind was howling through the window gaps when they were fully shut. Assume they were done as cheaply as possible. I was also a few doors down from the staff room, so I heard very frequent door slamming in the mornings which woke me up as it shook my door frame. There’s no way I’d be paying for full price for this hotel, but for a 50% off deal it was fine. The location is unbeatable and the bed was really comfortable. The room was a good size too.

This hotel has a lot of artistic design, which I really liked. The stay was comfortable, and it has a pool and a hot tub, so no need to worry about the cold during winter trips. Right behind it is a large New World supermarket, which can meet all your daily needs. The room has cooking utensils and a washing machine. Across the street are a museum and the harbor, offering beautiful views. If I come back, I'll definitely choose this place again. Parking here costs $50, which is a bit pricey, but they offer valet service. You just hand them your car keys and don't have to worry about it; whenever you need the car, just ask them to bring it to the hotel entrance.

sokchetta vudhThe hotel wall is very thin, you can hear everything from the next room. We hardly laugh or talk freely because we concern we might interrupt other people. The amenities is just old in overall (might consider to replaced now), the shower is not good too, we were surprise this hotel is part of Accor which is really concerning as one’s of the customer who like staying at Accor group from times to times. The buffet breakfast is quiet sad (we are not complaining about the option because it seems to be fit the price we paid for) but a cold ham that taste like it have been there for 2 days ago? I think we at least deserved a fresh ham… and also the condiments at breakfast like ketchup and mustard?? They are mostly empty and looking very dirty ( worst that food court). The staffs on the other hand is friendly and do the job right.

张Especially good, the boss is also good, gave a lot of help. The hotel is clean and strategically located. At the door are KFC and McDonald's, as well as large supermarkets. Very convenient.

Guest UserThe hotel has 22 floors, but rooms are located from the 8th floor upwards. During business hours, you can reach the reception on the 7th floor directly from the street via escalator, then take an elevator. Outside of business hours, you'll need to climb a steep staircase first, then take the elevator. The breakfasts are very good, but for some reason, the bedding and towels aren't changed.
