The Tasmanian capital city, Hobart, is known for its gorgeous waterfront and the scenic view from Mount Wellington. In comparison to the other Australian cities, Hobart has a much smaller population. It has beautiful ports and sits on the river Derwent. Most of the city’s main attractions are situated closer to the river.
Hobart is the second oldest city in Australia and has a lot of Georgian and Victorian architecture. You can reach various tourist spots in Hobart within an hour on foot. They are making the city abode for those looking for a quaint stay with the most fulfilling walks. Hobart experiences four distinct seasons and is considered one of the colder cities in Australia, with a temperate oceanic climate. The island city is easily accessible by air from all other cities within the country. Amongst other Australian cities, Hobart is slowly and surely coming of its own with a growing rate of tourism and budding modernisation.
Tip: Attend the Saturday market in Salamanca and avoid using a vehicle in the region.
A shuttle bus operates from the Hobart International Airport which can take you to the city centre which is about 20 kilometres away. The shuttle would be a cheaper option compared to a taxi ride. One could also opt for a shared taxi ride, which is readily available once you are at the airport.
Tiger Airways is the only airline that gives you a direct flight to Hobart, which takes you less than 3 hours from Gold Coast. The other airlines that offer you tickets on this route are Jetstar, Virgin Australia, and Qantas.
These connecting flights almost always fly through Sydney (SYD) or Melbourne (MEL) and in some cases both of them. A very few numbers of flights fly through Canberra (CBR) or Adelaide (ADL).
Tip: Wear a comfortable pair of shoes and explore the cities in Hobart on foot.
Hobart’s Central Business District has most of its workplaces, and you would have to head to the waterfront to experience what the city is all about. The most famous landmarks are Salamanca Market, Botanical Gardens, and Battery point that has old architecture made from golden sandstone. The Museum of Old and New Art more famously known as MONA has put Hobart on the map.
You can travel to the jagged mountain top known as Kunanyi by the aboriginals and famously called Mount Wellington. There is a budding coffee culture with quite a few places that serve you some great shots of caffeine. There are a handful of wineries and breweries serving you some of the best flavours, and with a dozen eateries, bars, and pubs Hobart could be your next holiday destination.
Tip: Plan your trip at the time of MONA FOMA (Museum of Old and New Art: Festival of Music and Art) to experience Hobart at its best.
