Understanding these guidelines is essential to avoid legal trouble, fines, or having your items seized upon arrival.
What Can You Bring to Indonesia?
- Personal Effects: You may bring clothes, toiletries, and typical accessories without a declaration, provided their total value does not exceed AUD 380. High-value jewelry may need to be reported.
- Currency: There is no limit on the type of currency you carry, but any amount exceeding IDR 100 million (approximately AUD 9,258) must be declared.
- Alcohol: Each traveler is permitted up to 1 liter of alcohol. Any amount over this limit must be declared and is subject to customs duties.
- Tobacco Products: Limits per person include 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, or 100 grams of tobacco. Excess amounts must be declared.
- Electronic Devices: You are allowed up to two devices (phones, laptops, tablets, or cameras). No declaration is needed if your stay is shorter than three months, though professional gear or drones may require special permits.
- Health & Medicine: Prescription drugs are allowed if accompanied by a valid doctor’s prescription. Note that Chinese herbal medicines are strictly prohibited.

How to Fill Out the Indonesia Customs Declaration Form?

Bali Customs Declaration Form [2026]: How to Submit Online
The process for filling out the Indonesia Customs Declaration is straightforward and designed to ensure a smooth arrival. You can complete this requirement either via a traditional paper form or through the Electronic Customs Declaration (E-CD) system at the airport.
1. Paper-Based Declaration
If you are provided with a physical form during your flight, you will need to provide the following details:
- Personal Information: Your full name, passport number, nationality, and flight details.
- Travel Intent: State whether your visit is for tourism, business, or to see family.
- Accommodation: Your intended address in Indonesia, such as a hotel or private residence.
- Reportable Items: You must list items such as excess currency, electronics, or any restricted goods.
- Authorization: Sign and date the document before presenting it to customs officials.
2. Electronic Customs Declaration (E-CD)
The E-CD system is a more efficient and faster way to clear customs in Indonesia. It allows travelers to submit their information online before landing:
- Access the Portal: Visit the official E-CD website or scan the QR code provided by your airline.
- Input Data: Enter your passport, flight, and travel purpose information.
- Declare Goods: Identify items that require declaration, such as cash exceeding IDR 100 million, alcohol, or tobacco.
- Receive QR Code: Once submitted, save the generated QR code to your device.
- Instant Clearance: Show the QR code to customs officers upon arrival for expedited processing.
What Happens If You Don't Submit Indonesia Customs Declaration?

Travel Tips: How To Get Through Customs Faster | Travelpro
Neglecting to file your customs paperwork in Indonesia can result in severe penalties. Travelers who fail to report restricted items or goods exceeding tax-exempt limits face potential seizure of property, monetary fines, and legal prosecution. Furthermore, grave infractions—particularly the transport of illicit substances—may lead to imprisonment or expulsion from the country. To mitigate these risks, it is highly recommended to disclose all relevant items; when in doubt, transparency is the safest strategy to avoid legal trouble.
What Items Do Australian Travelers Frequently Bring to Indonesia by Mistake?

Customs, Duties & Taxes | DHL Malaysia
Australian travelers, particularly those heading to Bali, often run into trouble by bringing items that are perfectly legal in Australia but strictly regulated or banned in Indonesia.
As of 2026, here are the most common items Australians mistakenly bring:
Prescription Medications
- Common Culprits: Dexamfetamine (ADHD), Ritalin, Codeine-based painkillers (like Panadeine Forte), and certain sleeping pills.
- The Mistake: Bringing these without a doctor’s letter and the original prescription.
Vapes and E-Cigarettes
While vapes are common in Australia, they occupy a "gray area" in Indonesia that has become increasingly black-and-white.
- The Mistake: Assuming vapes are treated like cigarettes.
- The Consequence: While you see them sold in tourist areas, customs officers can and do confiscate vaping devices and liquids (especially those containing nicotine) at the airport if they deem them "unregulated tobacco products."
Fresh Produce (The "Leftover Snack")
Because Australia has strict biosecurity, Australians are usually good at declaring things coming back, but often forget to check what's in their bag going in.
- The Mistake: Carrying a fresh apple, orange, or a ham sandwich from the flight or home.
- The Consequence: Indonesian quarantine (Barantan) is very strict about fruit and meat products to prevent the spread of diseases. These items are confiscated on the spot.
CBD and Cannabis Products
Even if you have a legal medical cannabis prescription in Australia, it is 100% illegal in Indonesia.
- The Mistake: Bringing CBD oils, gummies, or creams for anxiety or sleep.
- The Consequence: Indonesia makes no distinction between "medical" and "recreational" cannabis. Possession can lead to years in prison.

Hotels in Bali can be quite pricey, so I opted for this one, which offered great value for money, and I certainly wasn't disappointed! The environment is beautiful, with little squirrels scampering on the balcony in the mornings. It also has a swimming pool. The breakfast bread section was incredibly rich and varied; I could try a different kind every day, and the cooked items were excellent too. It was very comfortable for a relaxing holiday.FromSAR 330

You can only get here by bike or taxi, there is no entertainment in the hotel itself, only for a couple of nights, I would not recommend taking it for many days! There is nowhere to walk around the territory, although according to the description and reviews it seems that there is) The building itself is a little outdated, the room seems clean, but there is a smell of dampness, I was stuffy and uncomfortable sleeping there! At 6 or 7 p.m the staff wanted to break into our room with cleaning, and the staff opened the door while we were in the room, it is very strange! In the evening the monkeys come, close the balcony, we liked them, no complaints) The coolest thing is the hotel restaurant, the view and staff are 100% perfect!FromSAR 274

The hotel is quite large with a great environment, and the cleanliness and service are both good. However, the facilities are a bit old, and the lighting in the room is too dim. Additionally, the pool is a bit small, and Jimbaran beach was so incredibly dirty that we felt a bit bored by the second day.FromSAR 570

The rooms are spacious, and the balconies are very large and comfortable. We booked two rooms that connected with one main door, which was great for the kids as they could easily go between their room and the adults' room. The pool is small, but it's enough for kids to play in, and they thoughtfully provide sunscreen and mosquito repellent by the pool. Breakfast was also good, though kids have to pay extra. The service, however, was excellent. The hotel's location is also good, right on the street. Nearby restaurants like Pison offer convenience and even discounts. It's also super close to the Sacred Monkey Forest. The only slight inconvenience is the number of steps.FromSAR 386

It is 4 star hotel but the stay that I had was not up to that par. Our toilet seat has stain, and the shower room is smelly when we used the shower. The water spray is way too strong that we have to call them to fix on it. The sound proof is not good, you can hear people around you and the hotel staff did not come and warn them to lower the noise. They also didn’t have bell boy who can assist, probably work on shift hour. Although I have a great service with them for room service, however the cleanlines and the noise experience that I had, made me not to come back to this hotel again.FromSAR 48

As a five-star hotel, it's not perfect, but given the great price, it's acceptable.
The beach is just a few steps from the hotel's pool, and it seems to be a public one, as there's a boardwalk along the entire waterfront, perfect for a stroll.
There are plenty of lounge chairs by the sea, and the sand is nice. However, the beach isn't ideal for swimming, though you can still take a dip if you want to.FromSAR 214

Pros:
Fantastic location! Just a left turn out of the hotel brings you to a bustling area with everything you could need. Kuta Beach is only a 5-10 minute walk away.
The service was excellent. The staff were generally patient and very accommodating.
There's a spa right at the entrance – it was very relaxing and reasonably priced.
They offer packed breakfasts, which was a lifesaver. I ordered it the night before, and they had a huge, delicious box ready for me to take at 6 AM.
Cons:
1. The hotel's gate and lobby are separated by an underground parking lot. You either have to walk down into the garage and then back up, or go through a short corridor with small shops. It's inconvenient and not very aesthetically pleasing.
2. Definitely avoid booking their cheapest room. They've renovated, but only half of the rooms. The cheapest ones are unrenovated and face the street.
3. The hairdryer is incredibly weak; it took over ten minutes to even partially dry my hair.
4. The overall room quality is comparable to a budget chain hotel (like a 2-3 star hotel in China). The towels were a bit gray, though the water filter wasn't yellow. If you don't focus on small details, it's livable.
5. Check-out is at 11:00 AM! This is earlier than most hotels, and they really will rush you if you're not out on time.FromSAR 123

1. Free airport pick-up! The driver was super proactive, greeting me and confirming my name, and even helped with my luggage into the car. (I'd read on Xiaohongshu about Bali's tipping culture, but the driver didn't hint at a tip at all, and I didn't offer one since I had no small change right after landing. I didn't pay any extra fees throughout my stay, full marks!)
2. The room was clean and tidy, and the facilities weren't outdated. (The outlets directly fit Chinese plugs, no adapter needed, though two-prong Chinese plugs were a bit loose and would fall out. Luckily, I brought a three-prong power strip, which worked perfectly – excellent!)
3. Dinner was delicious (it was à la carte from a menu). The stir-fried rice noodles were incredibly fragrant, even better than in China 😋. Breakfast was a buffet and also very tasty, full marks.
4. The hotel service was absolutely incredible, and this is the most important reason I'm giving this hotel full marks. The genuine warmth and hospitality, with absolutely no discrimination against Chinese guests, made for a fantastic experience. So comfortable!
In summary, budget travelers can stay here with confidence – it's great value for money. If you only stay in luxury hotels, then don't come here to nitpick; you can't expect a premium experience for a few hundred bucks.FromSAR 146

Started well at this nice hideaway. Very nice staff was a great plus. A lot of things were good with the pool and villa being cleaned etc but a broken bathtub, ants and a cockroach or two didn’t help. The staff helped when they could but were slow to reply via their QR code. The foot massages were amazing!🙂
Quite a bit away from central Ubud with a shuttle bus on hand running four or five times to relieve the burden of taxis or bikes as a way of transport.
The breakfast wasn’t great. Didn’t take advantage of the 3 course meal included in our package, after the breakfast, so we thought they’d include a quesadilla and two drinks we bought on the first day instead, but unfortunately not. At the same time, with all the other issues above, we thought they would have.

The grounds and pools are like something out of a postcard. The restaurant is very pleasant and delicious. The breakfast, in particular, is excellent and varied.
Our bungalow with a hot spring was generally nice, just a bit smaller than expected, and we're not fans of the mosquito nets, as they make it even more intrusive. Showering with a view of the stars was great, and above all, the water pressure was good, and the temperature stayed warm or cold.
The resort is located in a small village, and transportation from the ferry can be comparatively expensive (200-400 IDR). There's no Grab or ATM nearby.
Renting a scooter at the end of the street at the Warung Makan was easy (under 100.00 IDR per day), which gave us the flexibility to explore the beautiful area.
We would have stayed there another night and thank the hotel for the wonderful stay, including a massage and delicious welcome drinks.FromSAR 163

This resort is massive, with tons of rooms, a huge pool, and plenty of restaurants. However, they don't offer a buffet dinner, and breakfast is incredibly crowded. By 8 AM, the dining area is packed, and by 8:30 AM, there's a queue forming that continues even after people have finished eating. It's just too many people.
The biggest takeaway from this hotel is its large number of rooms and high occupancy, but the service simply can't keep up. There's been no service from the moment we checked in. The hotel is located near Jimbaran Beach, about a 20-minute drive from the airport. While not directly on the beach, there's a private shortcut from the hotel that leads to the main road, with the beach right across. The security guards at the exit are very strict about checking IDs but also thoughtfully provide beach mats and other beach essentials for guests. The hotel's overall design and layout are beautiful, and the pool and kids' club are perfectly designed for children. Right outside the hotel is a small shopping plaza with a variety of restaurants and shops. The plaza also features different performances at scheduled times, so you can essentially meet all your daily needs without leaving the premises. The hotel staff are warm and friendly, especially the front desk manager, Rainy. On the night we checked in, we couldn't get proper rest due to a loud equipment noise from the tower above our room. The next day, Rainy, after reviewing the night manager's notes and listening to our account, promptly moved us to a quiet room. The entire process was polite, understanding, and efficient. Although the breakfast and afternoon happy hour offered a wide selection, the taste was quite mediocre. When the bathroom door was closed there is a light that come on automatically in the cupboard. So as the door did not close all the way the light stayed on all night so it was never quite dark enough in the room at night. Also I didnt like having the bathroom door open at night. Their smiles conveyed a shared confidence, stemming from a deep appreciation for their own culture and the hospitality industry.
Being 'hidden away' doesn't mean being cut off from the world. Instead, it filters out all the distractions, leaving only the purest sounds: the breath of the deep rainforest, and the warmth of genuine human connection. It offers a refined tranquility, allowing you to truly listen to and discover yourself.
As we left, it dawned on me that Mandapa's charm lies not just in providing a place to stay, but in creating a time of 'peace for the soul.' If I ever return to Bali, it will be specifically for Mandapa.
Perhaps this is the pinnacle a hotel can reach: it becomes the destination itself.FromSAR 5,500
