"I haven’t stayed in this kind of hotel before, so I don’t have much to compare it to — but our experience was great. We did the typical sightseeing route around Hakone. While you can get closer to the Mount Fuji, it takes more time and an earlier start. The hotel had everything we needed, so we didn’t even need to go to a store. Breakfast and dinner were both filling and had a good variety. The rooms were clean, spacious, and had a nice view of the station and mountains. The hotel is right next to the station, which made getting around very easy — and the trains didn’t bother us at all, the sound was even kind of calming. The public onsen baths were excellent, so we didn’t actually need a private bath in the room."

"Dear Hotel Team, I did not want to make these points of criticism public and therefore sent you an email on September 16, 2025. Since I have not received any response by October 1, 2025, I am now publishing my points of criticism. Thank you very much for hosting us from September 14 to 16 2025. Your service is so attentive and friendly - it was consistently perfect. Unfortunately, we experienced many shortcomings that I would like to point out to you. The room, unfortunately, was not clean. The sink siphon is yellow, and the bathtub on the balcony is full of residue from the thermal water. We found hair everywhere: on the floor, the bed, and the couch. I would expect a different hygiene standard in a 5-star hotel. The bed linen seemed old and had frayed edges and loose threads sticking out. It did not feel inviting to sleep in. On the terrace, the hanging chair had a hole that looked like it was caused by a cigarette. The wooden surfaces in the room showed a lot of wear and damage in many areas. Simply touching them up with a suitable marker or paint would already make them look newer and more high-quality. At the buffet, the water glasses were unfortunately very small. In the summer heat, I had to fetch four rounds of two glasses each at dinner to stay sufficiently hydrated. At the first breakfast, I got a cappuccino from the coffee machine. No milk came out, even though a staff member had just refilled it, and the remaining coffee tasted strongly of cleaning agent. The taste lingered in my mouth until the evening. I only took one sip and didn’t want to drink any more. On the first night, I was woken up by irregular beeping in the room. After a long search, I identified the safe as the source. The safe was irregularly entering codes on its own without any input. I tried to open it with my PIN - since our laptops were locked inside - but I couldn’t open it anymore. The error HOLD03 appeared, so I wanted to wait the three minutes for a new PIN entry. In the meantime, the safe entered codes again by itself and reactivated the HOLD03 timer. Luckily, I found a three-minute phase when the safe didn’t make an input on its own, and I was able to open it with my PIN. Out of lack of trust, I didn’t lock the laptops in the safe again. I kindly ask you to have the safe serviced and the defect repaired. Because of this, I unfortunately slept poorly and with the hygiene issues and the problems at the buffet, the overall stay was not enjoyable. A single problem would not make the stay worse, but the accumulation of issues put us off and does not correspond to a 5-star hotel charging ¥80,000 per night for a simple double room. I hope my feedback helps you and wish that you can resolve the problems easily and cost-effectively. Your service is on such a high level, and we truly appreciate that. Best regards"

"A really lovely hotel, not though in a particularly nice location.  The hotel staff are superb, from your very first welcome to the wave on departure.   There are complimentary drinks available in reception up until 5.30pm and free shuttles to & from Gora.  The free shuttle bus to and from Odawara is also a bonus.  The rooms are pleasantly decorated with comfortable bed and pillows.  The onsen on the balcony was a nice addition.   Whenever we called reception to ask for something they responded instantly. The breakfast was amazing, so much choice with good quality food.   We ate in both evenings as there’s not much around.   Karen in the restaurant was a delightful member of staff, welcoming us back, remembering our drinks choices from the night before and chatting with us about our  next destination.   It’s a pricey hotel but of good quality and handy for going on the Hakone loop."

"The staff were all incredibly friendly, always greeting us, and even proactively offered to take our empty drink bottles to dispose of for us. Our room was spotlessly clean. During the day, it served as a comfortable living space with a table, and then promptly at 6 PM each evening, the staff would come to lay out the futons. The three of us slept comfortably on the futons laid out on the floor. Haha, it was a fantastic experience! The hotel's location is superb, right opposite Hakone-Yumoto Station and just across the bridge, making it incredibly convenient and a wonderful place to stay. If you turn left from the hotel, you'll find a row of shops and restaurants to explore, though do note they tend to close quite early. The hotel's food was also quite good. Breakfast is a buffet, but the selection remains largely the same each day, so it might get a bit repetitive if you're staying for an extended period. 😄 We also enjoyed some delicious sushi at the hotel one evening."

"After seeing a recommendation from a WeChat influencer, I booked this hotel 🏨, and it was absolutely amazing! 👍👍 The price might seem a bit steep at first glance, but it's definitely worth every penny. I'm very satisfied! 😀 The hotel is located halfway up the mountain. Outside the hotel, there are hot springs. If you arrive before 3:00 PM, you can go and enjoy the hot springs ♨️ first. Check-in was very smooth, with smiling service. The overall design is a traditional Japanese garden style, ancient, elegant, and interesting. The intricate details of the decor are also worth appreciating. 😊 The hotel's 6th floor has exclusive private hot springs for guests, open from 5 AM to midnight – super nice! The absolute best part was the dinner buffet at the restaurant. There were so many choices, both Japanese and Western. The quality of the beef and sweet shrimp 🦐 was excellent, and there was a wide variety of drinks too – everything you could possibly want. It's the GOAT! The breakfast buffet was also great; the ramen was the best! ☺️ Luggage storage 🛅 was also very smart and convenient. This hotel deserves a 5-star rating, and I'll definitely visit again if I have the chance! ✨"

"The random hotel I booked was a complete success. Take the H line to Penglai Garden and it's just down the stairs. The hotel is small but beautiful. Meals are not provided, so breakfast is divided by room and you can take it back to your room. The room was spacious, Japanese-style, with maple trees outside the window. The hot springs were also amazing, rarely crowded on weekdays!"

"Fantastic!! As soon as I opened the room door, I was amazed by the view outside. The food was also great; we booked breakfast and dinner (highly recommend booking it, as there are very few restaurants in Hakone, so you can just grab a casual lunch while you're out). The transportation is quite convenient for Hakone, with a direct bus to Odawara that's less than a five-minute walk from the guesthouse. There's another bus stop a few minutes' walk away where you can catch an express bus directly to Yokohama/Tokyo/the airport. There are also two convenience stores nearby. This place is perfect for a relaxing, slow-paced stay, and it's also quite convenient if you want to visit various Hakone attractions. We left at 9 AM and returned around 5 or 6 PM, and we were still able to comfortably take the mountain cable car, pirate ship, and do some light hiking... Our room didn't have a private onsen, but the public hot spring was also not crowded. The service was excellent; someone takes your shoes to the shoe cabinet when you enter and even brings them out for you in the morning – the attention to detail is superb. How do I put this? This guesthouse is barely mentioned on Xiaohongshu, and those who know, know its value. My friend and I both decided we didn't want to post about it on social media; we just want to keep this secret gem to ourselves! 🥹 Hope the price doesn't go up for our next visit!"

"The service at Lake Ashi Prince Hotel is incredibly thoughtful. They offer shuttle services, including pick-up and drop-off at Odawara Station West Exit parking lot (reservation required), as well as a scheduled minibus to Moto-Hakone (no reservation needed; it departs from the hotel on the hour, stopping at Ryuguden Onsen Hotel before reaching the Moto-Hakone parking lot. There's a Lawson convenience store and a bubble tea shop run by a ********* lady, where you can find potstickers and siu mai – perfect if Japanese food isn't quite hitting the spot). Breakfast at the hotel is a must; it's quite remote here. You could easily spend a whole day relaxing at the hotel, enjoying the beautiful scenery. The only issue, common to the entire Hakone area, is the sulfur smell, which can't be eliminated. Make sure to keep the dehumidifier provided by the hotel running. For dinner, the buffet is a relatively more affordable option. Lunch is usually eaten out. Just a 300-meter walk from the hotel, you can catch the Komagatake Ropeway, which runs every 20 minutes or so. At the top, there's a shrine and a torii gate with panoramic views of Lake Ashi. If you're lucky, you might even see Mount Fuji (a telephoto lens is a must). Xiao Wang, a hotel staff member (who speaks Chinese), was very dedicated and responsible. Her explanations were thorough, and her service was excellent – thumbs up! I think she might also be from Taiwan! You can jog from the hotel to Togendai in 20 minutes via the Shrine Path (a shortcut); it takes about an hour to walk. Along the way, you can visit Kuzuryu Shrine for 300 yen (opens at 9:00 AM). When taking the pirate ship from Moto-Hakone, if you buy a round-trip ticket, be aware that the return trip doesn't necessarily arrive at the same port you departed from. You might have to take a bus back to your starting point (which is quite a hassle!). Wishing you all a pleasant trip!"

"The hotel boasts a comfortable ambiance and stunning views. The breakfast spread was very generous. Evenings were lively with bonfires and performances. The second-floor lounge offered complimentary drinks (including alcoholic beverages) and desserts. The hot springs, featuring both private and large communal pools, were incredibly relaxing. The hotel staff provided exceptionally warm and attentive service."

"This place has everything you need (onsen, washer, dryer, kitchen stuff, sauna, dishwasher and a telescope). Our family enjoys this place a lot. As we drove there, we had no issue in accessing to this place. However, we did face some issue with the self checking in using the in room tablet, as it couldn't upload our photos by showing us errors on the network. The contact centre staff has helped us to complete the check-in via pictures sent through emails. Also, there is no clearing of rubbish throughout my 3 days stay."
