GGuest UserA relaxing, slow-paced trip! The room was spacious and cozy. The front desk ladies were enthusiastic, lively, beautiful, and thoughtful fairies. It was also very convenient for late-night snacks and ordering takeout â the delivery driver provided excellent and thorough service. I'm looking forward to my next stay! The laundry and drying facilities were very convenient. It's right across from Daiwang Mansion, so after exploring from the South Gate, it was super easy to head back for a good night's sleep.

The owner was very friendly and welcoming. They kindly picked us up at the railway station and helped us arrange a car rental to visit Xuankong Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, and the Yungang Grottoes.
The breakfast was also delicious and a great way to start the day.
Their hospitality and assistance made our trip much easier and more enjoyable.

MM532169****I've chosen this brand's hotels since my trip to Huangshan a few years ago, and I often choose them when traveling to ancient cities to avoid the generic feel of Renaissance and Hilton hotels (of course, for business travelers, I still prefer international chains).
This hotel is small and exquisite, with a thoughtful and meticulously designed layout. The service is also very attentive, making guests feel right at home. The breakfast is delicious and beautifully presented.
The driver, Mr. Fan, recommended by the hotel, added a wonderful touch to our journey. His car was clean, his driving was smooth, and he spoke appropriately, making our trip very pleasant. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs him! ***********
Datong boasts numerous earthen treasures. The beauty of the Yungang Grottoes' Buddhist sculptures is awe-inspiring. The Hanging Temple's ingenuity is breathtaking. Jingtu Temple, Huayan Temple, and Shanhua Temple inspire reverence and leave visitors wanting more.
Cycling around the ancient city from the hotel is very convenient. Walking to the North Gate, you can admire the lanterns on the city wall and enjoy the view. At night, there's a light show at Taiping Gate (East Gate), making it a truly enjoyable experience.

Guandi Temple's entrance is literally on your doorstep, and during the Spring Festival, performances are held on its east side. This makes exploring and dining out incredibly convenient. The independent courtyard offers a beautiful and tranquil environment, complemented by attentive and warm service. With breakfast included, I highly recommend this place for your stay.

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay
Location:
- Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring.
- 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town
- 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions
- 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets.
I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around.
Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major.
Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening.
Room:
The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift)
Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set!
Service:
- Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate.
- Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge.
- I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me.
- Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here
- Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed.
I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

GGuest UserThe hotel's location is decent, not far from the ancient city. The room is spacious, but the luggage rack is a bit small. The bathroom has a separate shower and tub, and the staff thoughtfully provided a disposable bathtub liner. There were welcome fruits in the room, and even pear juice in the evening to combat Datong's dry climate. So thoughtful!
Breakfast offered a wide variety of options and was quickly replenished. I accidentally burned a slice of toast, and the chef, who was refilling the bread, kindly took my burnt toast away. So heartwarming!
However, I found an ashtray from the previous guest hidden behind a water bottle, which made me a bit concerned about the overall hygiene.
Also, finding a seat at breakfast was always a scramble. The hotel needs to address this issue.

JJames56It was a pleasant surprise to see such a bright and cheerful room, so close to the train station and a shopping mall and hypermarket. The lady at the reception was very helpful and pleasant. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom has very good shower and drainage. The best we have seen! On top of that, we were allowed to do our laundry for free! Transport was convenient. Lots of buses around and easy to visit the tourist attractions. Highly recommend this hotel!

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortableâmaking it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is idealâright in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager ĺ´çťç, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
