Renyi Inn
"Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. I will be uploading more photos and videos of my stay in Datong and travels in China on my YouTube channels once I'm back in UK. Check out my YouTube channels TheTravelDiary and goody2shoos for more information. Happy travels."
Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale , Datong
"Given that it's a branded star-rated hotel, the ambiance and quality are, as expected, excellent, and the hygiene is top-notch. The breakfast spread is also very generous. The only downside is the absence of a gym. The price is also quite high, which might be due to the summer season."
Moshang Light Luxury Hotel (Datong Ancient City Huayan Temple Branch)
"Aside from the good location, everything else felt a bit disappointing, especially the breakfast which was far below the standard of other 4-star hotels. Overall, not a great experience!"
Da Tong Weidu International Hotel
"Excellent! I was so impressed by the thoughtful service. The turndown service by the floor attendant was meticulously executed, right down to the smallest detail. I was truly touched! 😝"
Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion (Huayan Temple Branch, Datong Ancient Town)
"One of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at in China! We honestly didn’t expect to be this impressed. From the moment we arrived, everything was absolutely perfect. The hotel itself is incredibly beautiful and atmospheric. Every corner is thoughtfully designed, making it feel like you’re staying in a boutique museum rather than a hotel. The entire property is incredibly aesthetic, and every part of it is a perfect spot for beautiful photos. We stayed in a stunning two-level room, which completely exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, stylish, exceptionally comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Every little detail had been carefully considered. The location couldn’t be better—right in the heart of Datong Ancient Town. We could walk everywhere, with all the main attractions, restaurants, and beautiful streets just a few minutes away. The staff were some of the friendliest we’ve ever met. Everyone was genuinely welcoming, kind, and always happy to help, making us feel at home from the very first moment. Breakfast was also excellent. Instead of a buffet, a freshly prepared traditional Chinese breakfast was served each morning. It was delicious, beautifully presented, and the perfect start to the day. One of the nicest surprises was that guests can borrow traditional Chinese costumes free of charge for a photo shoot around the hotel. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough free time to try it ourselves, but it’s such a wonderful idea and gives us another reason to come back. We travel a lot and have stayed in countless hotels around the world, so it’s actually very difficult to surprise us. But this hotel genuinely did. If it were possible to give 100 stars instead of 5, we absolutely would. Even if we really wanted to find something to complain about, we honestly couldn’t. Everything was simply perfect. Without any doubt, this is one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. If we ever return to Datong, we won’t even consider staying anywhere else. We will definitely come back. Highly, highly recommended!"
Datong Onetwo Hotel(Datong ancient city Daiwangfu shop)

"The staff were very helpful, and there was quite a lot of food served in the restaurant, though the restaurant is not near. I had to walk for more than a minute from the building I stayed in."

Choose the Perfect Datong Stay for Your Travel Needs
Datong Jixiashan · SUNYATA Resort Hotel
"“Ji Xia Shan” (literally, “Below the Mountain”) is tucked away in a quiet corner of Datong's ancient city. Push open the courtyard gate, and the hustle and bustle instantly fade away. Green bricks, wooden structures, plain walls – colors are minimized, and tranquility is maximized. As night falls, another layer of light illuminates the courtyard. A fire-dancing artist moves with a 'fire pot,' a flick of their arms sending golden streams of fire streaking through the silent night. Sparks scatter between the eaves and the green bricks, flickering on and off like the unextinguished heartbeat of the sleeping ancient city. Silence and passion arrive simultaneously in this single courtyard. The room's window is understated. It doesn't rush to display a panoramic view; instead, it draws your eye to the layered rooftops, resembling distant mountains. And at this moment, through the window, the fire's reflection dances on the tea ceremony table. Ji Xia Shan doesn't create scenery. It simply filters out the noise for you, leaving behind the ancient city's true essence – and your true self. Checking in here is truly arriving."

Rui Feng Hotel
"This hotel is quite interesting! The interior design is inspired by ancient Chinese inns, which I found really charming. The hotel breakfast was also delicious. My feet were practically worn out after exploring Datong for a few days, so I didn't get a chance to try the local *daoxiao mian* (knife-cut noodles) outside, but the ones served at the hotel for breakfast were excellent. The hotel also has a restaurant with good food. On my last day, I was rushing to catch my high-speed train and didn't have time to eat, but they were kind enough to pack a meal for me. Very satisfied!"
youqing hotei
"This hotel didn't have any ratings yet, but I chose it based on a few glowing reviews. First off, there's parking right in front of the hotel, and if that's full, they have their own parking lot just across the road, and a friendly security guard will show you the way. The lobby has coffee, snacks, and even a kids' play area. Each floor is neatly stocked with bottled water for guests to grab whenever they like. I was amazed when I entered my room – it was huge! 👍 The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area, smart fixtures, and the TV was enormous – casting to it was a blast. The room was clean and tidy. There's a laundry room and a restaurant on the 2nd floor. For this price, getting all these amenities is definitely worth it! 😁 Now for the important part: the service. From the security guard and the front desk ladies to the maintenance guys, the housekeeping staff, and the restaurant workers – everyone greeted us with a smile and a friendly hello when we came and went. When you're traveling, who doesn't want to feel happy every day? 😍 The location is great too; it's convenient for all the attractions and there are plenty of delicious and affordable food options nearby. This is definitely my top choice hotel in Datong. I hope they keep up the good work, and I'll definitely recommend it to my friends! 💯"
Lihao International Hotel
"In the morning, I saw the sunrise over Hengshan Mountain from the 20th-floor buffet restaurant. In the evening, fireworks lit up the street outside my window. Enjoying a cup of coffee by the electronic bonfire at midday was the most pleasant moment. I spent an unforgettable Spring Festival holiday in Huai'ren, Shanxi. Thumbs up to Ms. Cheng at the front desk, Ms. Tang in room service, and Ms. Mulan in the breakfast restaurant for their meticulous and thoughtful service! 👍"
Yunting Hotel (Datong Ancient City Yingbin Street)
"The environment is excellent and quiet. The service was also very good the day before yesterday; they upgraded my room. It was clean and hygienic, and the facilities were all very good. I plan to stay at this hotel again during the summer vacation."
Kyoto International Hotel (Datong Daqing Road RT-Mart)
"Service: Excellent, the front desk staff was very welcoming. Facilities: The room was very spacious, I'd say it was quite tall, which made for a very comfortable and non-cramped stay. Plus, it had an 'Xiao Du' smart assistant and robot service. Hygiene: The room was very clean, with great attention to detail, even the water glasses had lids. The bathroom glass was also very clean."
HIDDENALLEY hotel
"Very good, but didn't provide rose petals for the bathtub as shown in the pictures"
Cloudspa Sanctuary
"Choosing the right accommodation in Datong Ancient City! The location is superb, in the bustling southeast area of the ancient city, near Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and the Nine Dragon Wall—just steps away from any shopping or dining destination. The private hot spring in its own courtyard is a huge plus; soaking in it is incredibly relaxing, and the privacy is excellent, making for a truly enjoyable time alone. The rooms are thoughtfully furnished, and the service is warm and attentive. Highly recommended! The ambiance has a classic Jiangnan courtyard feel, and I'll definitely stay here again!"
Wan Tu·Lanting Volcano Hot Spring Healing Resort Courtyard
"The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the decoration is high-end, especially each room has a separate hot spring pool. You don’t need to touch the body lotion after the hot spring water. The small courtyard has a beautiful environment. Now there is a rare paradise. The best choice for leisure and vacation. The service attitude is not to say, it makes people feel like going home. You can also pick green vegetables, melons and fruits yourself, and barbecue yourself. It is the best place to go on holiday. I plan to go again next time on vacation."
Datong Huangjing Century Hot Spring Hotel
"Staying in a scenic room upstairs, I had exclusive access to an outdoor open-air hot spring. The evening breeze and beautiful views, coupled with the warm and soothing spring water, washed away all my fatigue. The room was clean and comfortable, perfect for solo relaxation or a small gathering. It was a truly healing hot spring getaway!"
Meijia Express Hotel
"This hotel is really great! The couple's service attitude is super good, the hotel has free parking, and the check-in is also very fast. The hotel facilities are great, the rooms are clean and tidy, and the sleep is super comfortable😊. The most surprising thing is that the transportation here is well connected. There are supermarkets, restaurants, and bus stations downstairs. In general, the service and facilities of this hotel are very satisfactory. It is really a hotel with super cost-effectiveness and worth staying in!"
OKDAY Hotel (Datong Ancient City, Huayan Temple, Datong)
Located steps away from majestic Buddhist landmarks, this stylish boutique stay is celebrated for its highly photogenic interior aesthetics and incredibly convenient exploration of ancient streets.
Xingyun Elegant Restaurant (Datong University Branch)
"I can only say that you should experience a high-end nursing home in advance. The beds are all on wheels, for the elderly who cannot take care of themselves. I always feel that I have to solve the problem of sleeping on the bed that has slept on many elderly people at the end of their lives. The accommodation is not recorded in the public security system. The hotel should be playing a gray area. It is actually a health care center and a health care hospital."
