1118942****On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me.
Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄
This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

GGuest UserOverall, the hotel was good. First, the room location suggestion I made to the front desk was respected, which demonstrates excellent service. Second, the room was spacious and clean, which is acceptable unless you're a nitpicker. Summer is a busy season, so the cleaning lady is understandably busy. (The only minor issues I noticed upon arrival were a hair on the towel and a poorly wiped tabletop.) Third, the toilet was smart, there was a humidifier, and the TV had a mirrored screen (I don't recommend using the humidifier; the room was foggy the next day, almost as hazy as if the PM2.5 levels were excessive). The breakfast was generally decent. Overall, it was a good stay. I extended my stay for another night and would have if they hadn't sold out. However, the mattress was a little too soft, and the quilt felt a bit like paper, which wasn't very comfortable. I compared this to another hotel (Wanda Meihua) and found the mattress at the Wanda Meihua to be just the right firmness, the pillows comfortable, not too soft, and the quilt to be a bit more comfortable.

GGuest UserI've stayed at Jianguo Puyin hotels in several cities, and this one has the worst service. On my first night, I called to report that my toilet was clogged. They sent someone to unblock it, and I saw that person report it to engineering. The next day, I was out sightseeing, so I don't know if anyone came to fix it. By the third morning, the toilet was completely blocked, and water was leaking all over the bathroom floor. At this point, the front desk said they'd help me deal with it. I was literally about to check out! What's the point of fixing it then? So frustrating.

TT.F. LaiWe had such a lovely stay in Datong! The hospitality here truly exceeded our expectations. The host was incredibly friendly, caring, and always ready to help with anything we needed. They even offered to do our laundry while we were out sightseeing, and folded everything neatly after it dried — such thoughtful service.
They also helped us order food and gave great recommendations, which made our trip so much easier. The room itself was surprisingly high tech, with a fun sound control system that made the stay even more enjoyable.
Although the room is on Level 2 with no lift, the host kindly carried our luggage up during check in and brought it down again when we checked out. Their helpfulness really made a difference.
Breakfast was lovely — nutritious, tasty, and just the right kind of start before heading out to explore.
Overall, we felt very welcomed and well taken care of. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Datong.

GGuest UserStaying at Ruifeng Tower was definitely the best decision for our Datong trip! The hotel is located right in the heart of the ancient city, within walking distance of attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, making it super convenient. The rooms have an antique charm, and when you open the window, you're greeted with the sight of traditional courtyards and intricate eaves.
What truly delighted me were the books in the room. Reading them before bed, the glory of Pingcheng during the Northern Wei Dynasty and the prosperity of the Liao and Jin secondary capitals came alive on the pages, adding a wonderful cultural depth to our journey.
The breakfast buffet was abundant, and the staff were warm and professional. Next time I'm in Datong, I'll definitely choose Ruifeng Tower again, to immerse myself in the unique charm of this ancient capital amidst its scholarly ambiance and historic beauty!

KKOKO KanitthaFantastic Datong Stay! This hotel was a gem! From the start, the experience was warm, kicking off with complimentary noodles and coffee—a lovely welcome treat.
The staff is exceptional. Even without speaking Chinese, their warm attention was constant. A huge thank you to Rachel and her colleagues! They were an absolute A-Plus for English speakers and flawlessly handled booking my local bus to the Xuankong Temple and Yungang Grottoes. Truly lifesavers!
The location is perfect, being just minutes away and easily walkable to both Datong Old Town and the magnificent City Walls. For convenience, there are plenty of local restaurants and a handy convenience store right nearby. The room itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, and refreshingly smoke-free, and the bed was very comfortable. It was great that we could slightly open the window to manage the heat and humidity. (Just a small note: I do prefer a standard showerhead to the rain shower, but that's minor!)

The service was excellent; the staff member, Xiong Fengqing, noticed medication on my table and proactively brought me chrysanthemum tea bags, along with extra bottled water. Breakfast was fantastic with a wide variety of high-quality options, including local Datong specialties. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong.

GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.

RRichard76ukThis weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Great Palace Hotel in Datong, and I must say it was an incredible experience from the moment we arrived. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the staff. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning guest, the service remains consistently high. I chose this hotel primarily because of its location right next to Datong Ancient City, offering great views and convenient access. It also has a parking lot, and the restaurant's dishes are quite distinctive with a good variety of choices. Although breakfast was average and lacked variety, it was nutritionally balanced and met basic needs. Overall, the hotel's location and the scenic views were what we were most satisfied with.
