A very cozy and comfortable B&B, located right in the ancient town's pedestrian street, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling area. The courtyard is spacious, the rooms are clean, and all amenities are of high quality. Breakfast is plentiful, and the staff are friendly. The location is excellent, with all of the ancient town's attractions within walking distance, which is great when traveling with kids as it saves a lot of hassle. Plus, many popular restaurants often have long queues, but because this place is so close, you can easily grab takeout and enjoy your meal back at the hotel, saving a lot of waiting time. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit Datong.

An unexpectedly wonderful stay! Let's start with the service – it was absolutely five-star. The staff were incredibly proactive and attentive. They greeted us whenever we met, helped serve congee and make coffee during meals, and even introduced us to the dishes. The chef at the teppanyaki grill could cook eggs to different levels of doneness according to our preferences. The housekeeping attendant was also very professional; she cleaned our room while we were out and restocked all the amenities. Overall, the hotel service was impeccable. Now, for the room and facilities. Our room faced the street and was quite spacious, featuring a dedicated luggage area and a separate toilet room. The bedding was very comfortable, and the bedside light switches were conveniently placed. The TV was a bit small and had an on-demand system that felt a bit old-fashioned, like something I used years ago. The price wasn't expensive, though; we wanted to watch a variety show, so we bought a two-day package for about seven yuan. Of course, screen mirroring would have been ideal. We received complimentary fruit on both check-in day and the second day, including kiwi berries and Shine Muscat grapes, which was a pleasant surprise. The mini-bar was also free, and I was especially delighted to find sugar-free Coke – so thoughtful! The only minor drawback was that the bathtub drain plug was stuck, so the attendant had to help with the water. Finally, let's talk about the hotel breakfast and parking. Just look at the pictures – the breakfast was a delightful surprise and very high-quality. The parking lot is within the hotel's own courtyard, which is beautifully landscaped and has plenty of spaces.

The room was more spacious than expected; the two beds were plenty big, and our child didn't feel cramped at all. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area, so there was no morning rush or queuing to wash up. The front desk staff was very sweet and welcoming. The soundproofing was great at night, allowing our kid to sleep soundly and wake up fully energized—we didn't miss a beat exploring the Ancient City the next day! Getting around is also very convenient, with plenty of dining options nearby and cabs easy to catch right outside. We’ll definitely consider staying here again on our next visit to Datong.

I forgot to leave a review before, but even though the facilities aren't top-notch, the environment was quite peaceful. I'm not sure if it was because I requested a quiet room when booking, but our three rooms were on a floor where there were indeed no noisy drunkards or unruly children. Being able to get a good rest makes it a decent hotel. Some hotels, despite having great facilities, have terrible management, which is pointless... Breakfast was average; the lamb offal soup was pretty good, but you can't expect too much from breakfast at this level of hotel. Both service and breakfast were pretty standard, and overall, it wasn't a rip-off.

The hotel staff mentioned that the boiler had just undergone a major overhaul and advised me to let the water run. I let it run for about half a bathtub's worth, but it was still yellow. However, that wasn't the biggest issue. The main problem was that the water temperature was consistently insufficient. I stayed for two nights, and trying to draw a bath at a decent temperature was out of the question; it was only warm enough for a quick shower to avoid getting cold. I also found a clump of hair in the corner of the bathtub that hadn't been cleaned. Overall, I was quite disappointed.

Beyond the stunning ancient architecture, Datong's food is simply unforgettable. A bowl of authentic knife-cut noodles and a serving of Hunyuan cold noodles are not only generously portioned but also absolutely delicious. This city perfectly blends historical grandeur with a vibrant, everyday atmosphere. It's definitely worth making a special trip!

I stayed at the VIP Building for over ten days during my summer escape to Datong, and overall, I was very satisfied. It was an excellent choice. The hotel has a large footprint and a great location. You can walk north to the ancient city or south to large shopping malls like Parkson and Xingjuhui. Of course, taking a taxi is even more convenient; for around ten yuan, you can get to many places in the city. The hotel boasts a spacious courtyard, making self-parking very easy. There's also an underground parking garage with direct elevator access to the ground floor lobby. Within the courtyard, Datong Hotel and the VIP Building are arranged one behind the other. The courtyard is filled with fountains and greenery, creating a very pleasant environment. From the hotel courtyard, you can descend steps to Xinguo Temple and Yingbin Plaza. Even better, for those who find stairs difficult, there's a separate elevator for convenient access. The park isn't small at all; it offers a new beautiful view at every turn, and you can also visit the ancient Ming Dynasty Xinguo Temple. Hotel breakfast is served on the first floor of the VIP Building, offering both Chinese and Western cuisine. The selection is incredibly rich, and the best part is the abundance of hot dishes. The flavors are a refreshing change from the usual local fare—light, not spicy, and not greasy, making them exceptionally delicious. My favorite was the stir-fried tomatoes with eggs. The knife-sliced noodles are also a must-try; the chef slices and cooks them fresh right in front of you. Kuai Lei (a local specialty) is also a must-eat. Plates are cleared promptly, service is attentive, and they even offer takeaway service for those who sleep in. Lunch and dinner are served at the second-floor restaurant, offering good food at reasonable prices. Additionally, ordering takeout to the hotel is very convenient. There's a swimming pool with standard lanes on the basement floor, but during the summer, it gets quite crowded and a bit chaotic with many children learning to swim. There's a self-service laundry on the first floor of the hotel. The room provides unlimited drinking water, an iron, and buckwheat pillows, but there's no refrigerator, which is a bit inconvenient. We stayed in a suite, and while it had two bathrooms, only the master bedroom's bathroom had a shower and a bathtub. One minor complaint: the bathroom faucet splashes quite a bit if you turn the water on too strong. As for the service, we later upgraded to a room on the ninth floor for a few days. A special thanks to the cleaning lady; she was incredibly nice. The engineering department also provided us with assistance. In summary, this is an excellent choice for a holiday retreat: three meals a day, walks in the park, and convenient taxi access for exploring the city and shopping. It's truly the best option.

I called, and a staff member came over immediately to troubleshoot the issue, which I really appreciated. When they realized it couldn't be fixed, they offered alternative equipment. However, they later moved us to another room with working air conditioning. I hope that in the future, if a room's basic facilities are faulty and there's availability, they can directly offer a room change. Overall, the stay was very pleasant and worth recommending.

Let me talk about the pros. The breakfast was quite plentiful and tasty, 68 yuan per person. Our child, being 15, paid an extra 40 yuan. We booked three rooms together. The rooms were decent for a five-star hotel, and the lobby was beautiful. Now for areas for improvement. Aside from the good security guard at the entrance, the service could be better. Since it's a hot spring hotel, the hot spring itself is important, but it was rather mediocre. Of the 12 pools, some were 58 degrees Celsius, some 48 degrees, and only a few were usable and small. Also, because so many people were crammed into a few pools, they became quite dirty. All three families stayed for an hour before leaving. There were too many access control points. For a hotel in such a remote area, I don't understand why there were so many access control points and card swiping systems; it was very inconvenient. I didn't intend to give a low score because the front desk gave us a complimentary breakfast, which was a concession.
