The hotel is well located, stunning hotel, great facilities. Cleanliness is average because when we arrived, the cupboards had food that did not belong to us and the daily room service was very basic just making the bed, changing some not all used towels, on some days they did not even top up the coffee capsules but overall I would recommend the hotel. Enjoyed their pool table and gym facilities as well.
At first glance, the Leonardo Royal Hotel am Stadtpark in Cologne appears very ”blocky”. Located a little way back from a main road, it looks like an office complex.
But when you get to the hotel, the picture changes. You are greeted in an attractive lobby and meet the very friendly and courteous staff at the reception. The service here was really first class, we were able to check in just before 12 noon because the room was ready.
Our room was at the back with a magnificent view of a lake in Cologne's Stadtpark. The room itself was very neat and clean and excellently equipped (fridge, TV, coffee machine, tablet & WiFi and also with a make-up mirror and hairdryer in the spacious bathroom). Also worth mentioning is the very comfortable king-size bed with a great mattress (I haven't slept so well in a long time).
The breakfast buffet also leaves nothing to be desired, is very extensive, international and offers everything that should be ”state of the art”.
The hotel is very quiet due to its location directly in Cologne's city park. There is a tram stop within walking distance for trips into Cologne city centre, making it ideal for a city trip to the cathedral city.
I booked it because I was arriving late at night. But my flight was delayed and I arrived later than anticipated. Also, I wrote yo them on mail to ask for they shuttle bus to pick me up, and they didn’t have the clear pick up place, so their shuttle passed me 2 times after which I decided to walk there. And upon arrival and getting into my room someone else was trying to check in into my room, so it was really awkward. The breakfast was good.
The room is clean and of a good size.
The location is slightly off the train station and the inner city, so the price is cheap.
Give priority to business rooms with carpets.
At first, I chose the expensive superior room, and the carpet looked old, not as good as the cheaper business room.
I stayed in the room directly opposite the elevator, and it was not very noisy.
One of the waiters at the front desk was Chinese.
There is a Rewe supermarket 30 meters downstairs, open until 10 pm.
The disadvantage of the hotel is that there are not many restaurants around. The nearest shopping mall is 1.2 kilometers away, and you can walk there in 25 minutes.
I strongly recommend Saman Restaurant (not the TO GO store), which is a 30-minute walk from the hotel, with a rating of 4.9.
Whole lamb chops, lamb, and beef are really the best places for meat lovers. It is best to make an appointment for the arrival time on Google map.
