Very disappointed. We asked for a separate shower and were given a wheelchair friendly “spacious” room in the coachhouse. Sorry but one worn out uncomfortable armchair is not good enough in a hotel room at this premium price. Similarly no drawers or shelves so we were living out of our suitcase. We always stay in high end hotels but this one was disappointing. We raised our disappointment but, frankly, gained the impression that we were just moaning. Generally there was no impression of customer care - quite the reverse. We do have fairly common allergies but felt they were a nuisance too. One night we arrived in the restaurant at the appointed 7.30 but our main course arrived at 9 - without comment. There are two restaurants taking food from one kitchen and one night we asked for a dish (steak) from the other one while the other chose a dish from the main menu. We were told that this was not possible - are we supposed to sit in different restaurants? Common sense did prevail and we were told it was ok because we had caught the chef in a good mood! No customer focus.

What a lovely experience! We ate in the garden room and sampled some new delicacies for starters (smoked eel Caesar salad) and firm favourites (prawn cocktail). Mains included Moules Frites, dressed crab and skate wing. All finished off with crumble and Lemon Verbana. All four of us loved our meals, the atmosphere, the lovely wine and the beautiful surroundings. We will certainly be visiting again soon.

We were visitors from New Zealand with English friends and called in for a drink on the first night of our week long stay in an airbnb. We asked if we could get a drink on the terrace and told it was table service by a snooty hostess. We sat down and we ordered 2 wines and 2 beers. My husband then wanted another beer so he put out his hand to the passing hostess and said "could I get another of these please? " She stuck her nose in the air and said in a very contesending voice"I'll send the waiter over". After that we decided to leave. The bill was almost 60 pounds. We couldn't believe it. Paid and left. The hostess needed to go for some customer service skills. She was rude and unapproachable. Needless to say we didn't go back to that hotel. Instead went to the Prince of Wales, just down the road and had excellent food and drink at a reasonable price and excellent customer service.

We visited as a family to celebrate a 90th Birthday. The Sunday lunch was very good as was the service. The restaurant is beautiful but a little crowded, with furniture. The views if you are sat near a window are stunning, looking out over the Chatsworth Estate.

The 3 course lunch for £20 was excellent value if your dine early at midday. Matt our server was excellent and very professional in the garden room. The place was thriving with all the tables full for lunch. The food was cooked to a very high standard. The bar area looked great and had some excellent beers from the local Thornbridge Brewery. Lovely gardens and walks from the hotel.

Pleasant recently re decorated country house hotel in beautiful setting. Our room was clean quiet and comfortable. It (room 5) had windows on two walls, which made it feel light and airy and gave good views over rolling countryside. It was described as 'cosy' which is usually hotel-speak for 'very small'. In fact it was a reasonable size, with room for two armchairs. Good size bathroom too. We liked the fresh milk in the little fridge. Being picky, the bathrobes had seen better days. The 'light breakfast' was so-so - undercooked doughy croissants and tables too small. There is a pleasant terrace for warm days. Our kir (£14) did not look or taste like any kir we've ever had - and we've had plenty. So, not a perfect stay but pretty good.

Just WOW! We had a wonderful lunch in the garden room and were thoroughly spoilt! Fantastic menu, great food and the service was outstanding! Something really special, yet not stiff or unwelcoming. The decor was wonderful and the views amazing. Can’t wait to visit again.

We had a simply lovely time for our afternoon tea with our two young children, who were treated kindly and welcomed as though they were just as important as their parents! We loved the tea menu and the afternoon tea was generous and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We chose to sit in the garden room, which had lovely decor and a good feeling to it. Just the right setting for afternoon tea! The loos had a real sense of the history of the area and were spotless. We wandered through the other downstairs areas and they were really characterful and well decorated. There's a good choice of places to eat or just have a drink. It's a gorgeous location and we went for a stroll around the grounds of Chatsworth afterwards, which was just a short walk away. Would recommend!

Went for lunch today and was amazed by the lack of attention to detail and professionalism by a so called prestigious restaurant. The original main courses brought to the table were both incorrect, we then waited 30 mins plus for the correct meals, insufficient cutlery was available and despite requesting a knife it took 2 attempts to achieve this simple task. The crumble was served without cutlery and the waitress did not notice and walked away! When considering the hefty price for lunch this was far from acceptable for such an establishment, staff training should be an urgent matter here. Sadly will not return or recommend.
