"A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City."

"1. Location: The B&B is very close to the Yungang Grottoes, only about 20 minutes' drive away. The surrounding transportation and parking are convenient. 2. Breakfast: The breakfast time is very long until 11 o'clock. It is a buffet combining Chinese and Western food, and there is the local specialty knife-cut noodles. 3. The tatami room in the B&B is especially suitable for multiple people to stay in. Everyone sits together to chat and play cards. The atmosphere is super good! Coupled with the blessing of the mahjong table, I don’t want to sleep at night. I have so much fun! It is highly recommended to friends who like lively occasions or to families who want to have fun. It is very cost-effective."

"Excellent hotel, everything is perfect about this hotel. Excellent service from the reception and housekeeping staff. The room was excellent and extremely clean, very modern and big. Location-wise, it is excellent as it is only a 5-minute drive from Datong Railway Station. Breakfast was also amazing with a wide variety and high standard for a very reasonable price. Definitely will choose this hotel again if I am coming back to Datong."

"Just realized I forgot to leave a review, so I'm specially coming back to write one! My sister and I stayed here for two days in Datong after attending a wedding in Taiyuan. The courtyard is lovely, and it was so comfortable just relaxing there. They also provide complimentary bicycles, which we used to cycle to attractions like Yanhuasi, Shanhuasi, and the Nine-Dragon Wall, and to explore local eateries nearby. The service was exceptional. Our initial room unfortunately still had a slight renovation smell, even six months after the work was done, so they promptly moved us to a family suite. The front desk staff were very apologetic and even offered us a discount. Later, when I came down with a stomach bug, the owner personally brewed Puer tea for me, chatted, and genuinely checked in on my well-being. We later learned the guesthouse is run by the owner and their friends, which truly explains its wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere."

"We booked 4 rooms this time, with 7 people in our group + 1 child. The rooms are very clean and each has its own character and name. There are tatami beds and double beds. A large tatami bed is specially arranged for children, so they can sleep peacefully 😁. The room is fully equipped with various disposable toiletries and an instant water kettle. I especially like the service 👍🏻. The breakfast variety is much richer than we imagined, including eggs, corn, pumpkin, sweet potato, millet porridge, minced meat noodles, small cold dishes, fruits, and they even made cakes for the children. On the first day we arrived at the B&B, the staff came to meet us and help with our luggage. It was raining, and they reminded us that there were umbrellas available at the door. I also boiled some hot water to drink. There is a big solid wooden table in the lobby on the first floor, with fruits and snacks on it. The children were very happy 😄. The inside and outside of the door are carefully decorated with green plants and hydrangeas, which is very comfortable. The geographical location is perfect for our travel, close to the main road, with parking spaces available. When we don't want to drive, we can take a taxi or stroll into the ancient city for shopping and eating. As soon as I went out, I saw the city wall. I went to see the night view on my last night! This time everyone praised the convenient location."

"Fengqi Courtyard is an absolute gem of a B&B in Datong Ancient City! From the decor and layout of the B&B's public spaces to the bedding, bathroom fixtures, and soft furnishings in the rooms, every detail meets the standards of a five-star hotel, yet offers a homely warmth. The owner's elegance and sense of fun are evident. The enthusiastic young man who arrived early to pick us up at the airport, the sweet smile and warm greeting from the front desk lady every day, the thoughtful drinks and snacks delivered to our rooms after we arrived late, and the fresh fruit and snacks quietly placed by our bedside every day—all of this added an unforgettable touch of warmth and relaxation to our Datong trip. The ”Nine-grid” breakfast here is a highlight: Almost every local Datong snack is available, and desserts from internet-famous restaurants appear in the buffet area in a new twist every day. The soy milk is freshly ground and cooked. There are vegetarian dumplings made by the owner's mother at 5 a.m., freshly stir-fried seasonal vegetables, crispy homemade potato pancakes, and refreshingly cold day lily salad... I've been eating this Nine-grid breakfast for four days straight, never repeating myself. I only regret that my stomach isn't big enough to handle it all. Yes, I saved money on lunch. The Datong specialty yellow rice jelly, knife-cut noodles, and mutton offal noodles are every bit as good as Zi Ni or Feng Lin Ge. (Just a whisper, lest the owner gets too proud.) The B&B is perfectly located: the South City Wall, Shanhua Temple, Huayan Temple, Confucian Temple, Guandi Temple, Drum Tower, Sipailou, and Nine Dragon Wall are all within easy reach. Turn left and down the steps is Sipailou Wonton—a recommended Didi pickup point. Away from the hustle and bustle of the ancient city's commercial streets, yet so close at hand. After a stroll in the evening, I came back from the small courtyard, enjoying the cool breeze and gazing at the starry sky above the courtyard. It was a truly relaxing experience. When I left the B&B, the owner personally saw me off to the station, and we chatted for 20 minutes (it couldn't be helped; the B&B is so close to the high-speed rail station). This young man loves his hometown and has unique insights and ideas about hotel management. He puts his guests' minds at ease and pays attention to every detail. I think this is the essence of doing everything well. Starting a business is not easy, but I believe Fengqi Courtyard will stand out. See you next time!"

"For anyone visiting Datong, I wholeheartedly recommend this guesthouse! It was the perfect first stop on my Shanxi trip, and the experience was superb. It truly operates at a high hotel standard; the attention to detail in the rooms was exceptional, even providing mouthwash and laundry detergent. Overall, from its prime location and beautiful interior to the impeccable service from the front desk ladies, everything was faultless. It's clear the owner runs this place with immense dedication and care. Both the exterior and room decor are incredibly stylish. The front desk staff and even the cleaning team were all incredibly friendly and helpful. From the airport pickup upon arrival to their help with luggage near the guesthouse, every detail was so thoughtful. During my stay, the front desk ladies were wonderfully accommodating, often assisting with packages and food deliveries. At checkout, I even received a lovely local Shanxi vinegar as a souvenir. In short, I highly recommend it. Should I return to Datong, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again."

"The new Holiday Inn was truly amazing! The staff were all very professional and attentive. Special thanks to Manager Zhao Jie for arranging a room upgrade in advance and providing airport transfer service afterwards. The rooms were also very clean. The breakfast, including freshly made wontons, noodles, and fruit, was excellent. The Chinese restaurant was also reasonably priced and served both lunch and dinner. As for the hotel's location, it's in a local residential area with small and medium-sized supermarkets and plenty of barbecue restaurants nearby. It's about 3 kilometers from Datong Ancient City, making it easy to call a ride-hailing service."

I was completely captivated the moment I stepped inside. The rooms are also impeccably equipped and maintained.
