Star Hill Village Resort Phu Quoc

Brilliant hotel with welcoming staff. Really feel at home here lovely clean rooms, comfy beds and lovely pool plus a great breakfast. Highly recommend coming here will definitely come again. Only a 10 minute walk from the beach. Great place for peace and quiet

We stayed as a couple for a week. Although the resort may look a little basic it has fabulous points and we would definitely return. The gentleman on reception was extremely welcoming and had fabulous English (far better than my attempt at Vietnamese!) The room (Hoiann 16) was basic and had a half outside bathroom. It was perfectly adequate and came with its own resident Larry the lizard gekko’s! The shower didn’t really have much hot water so it was a quick wash and out but quite refreshing after a hot day Breakfast was lovely with fresh eggs made Motorbike rental was 150,000 dong per day (£5) and the whole process was very easy. The pool was clean and quite big. Overall a great stay for the money we paid

We had a good stay here but it wasn't perfect. Pros: Lovely staff, room cleaned daily with replacement towels, toilet roll, toiletries and water included, safe in room, big swimming pools, tv in room, ping pong & pool table. Cons: The beds were not the comfiest, hard and the duvet cover didn't fit the duvet, it was like they tried to fit a king size duvet into a double cover? No balcony, the air conditioning was not the best in the room, the lighting was really dim, only mirror was in the outside bathroom that was so hot and sticky due to the heat needs one inside the room, hairdryer was like a pink toy one, the electric went off often (we were not told until we queried why it went off so often that this is actually done at scheduled times, would have been nice to have known this) made the room very hot with no air con or fan. Breakfast didn't have a lot of choice, not the best. Lots of stairs everywhere, lots of broken tiles around the pool and throughout the place making some of the stairs uneven, dangerous when slippery and dark especially. Ceiling fan in the room was filthy and when on blew bits of black dust all over the white bed linen, the handrail up to the room was really wobbly, not safe at all, all though the pools were big and we did swim in them a few times the water smelt like pond water, a rusty smell to the water and our swim wear had to be rinsed through with soap straight after otherwise it smelt awful once dried, this was probably due to the amount of rain during the nights that we stayed here, it didn't ever seem to get cleaned, the sun loungers need replacing, rotting wooden ones with bits missing, dirty cushions to put on them, the pool towels provided had stains and rips in them. We were playing pool and asked for a drink from the bar, we were told that they didn't have anyone managing the bar as they stopped at 9:30pm (we asked at 9pm) this was the case for the full week we stayed here, no one on the bar the whole time day or night? The hotel is up a steep hill, this was fine for us but not for everyone, we had glorious sunny days but a lot of rain and thunderstorms every night and it was like walking up a river some nights, fun for us with the kids but would not be for everyone, there are a lot of dogs on the way up the hill, we never had any problems but one did bark a lot at us one evening. Its quite noisy at night with music still heard at 4am from the surrounding bars. I nearly stepped on a snake that was at the bottom of the stairs leading up to our room, we told the staff who immediately removed it, they informed us that it was a water snake and not dangerous, we spoke to another guest who had encountered a snake in their room and again staff dealt with this quickly, there is lots of wildlife around, at the end of the day the place is up in the hills, we encountered lots of lizards, snails, dragon flies, butterflies and frogs while there, the rain at night made them all come out especially! “Avoid avoid avoid ” If you want to stay somewhere that has a spiders nest to a kids bed and an outside bathroom open to the elements and a million and one mosquito this is the place ! We asked for another room but manager said we had the best room - dread to think what others are like! We checked out within 15 minutes and they still had the cheek to charge us for that night - wouldn’t send my worst enemy to this so called hotel!
