"The location is excellent. Right across the street is the main shopping street, where you can find plenty of options for food, drinks, and shopping. If you turn left after leaving the hotel, you can walk up to Matsuyama Castle. Along the way, you'll see trendy shops, stores selling local specialty oranges, and souvenir shops. On the main street, there's a udon noodle shop (the one in my photo) that perfectly suited my Shanghai palate with its fresh and slightly sweet flavor. That was our breakfast in Matsuyama.
Our room was on a high floor, and with the window open, we had a great view of Matsumoto Castle and Bansuiso Villa. Most of the guests staying at this hotel seemed to be Korean. One of the middle-aged women at the front desk spoke excellent Chinese. The room was a bit small, but the convenient location made up for it, though the price was slightly on the higher side."

"Great stay - good sized room. The onsen facilities were excellent especially the outdoor onsen. Never busy when I was there. Great breakfast too. Welcoming and helpful staff. Quiet at night. Easy access to the castle, shops and restaurants and about a 15 min walk from Matsuyama City station."

There was a parking lot, so it was convenient, and the breakfast bento was delicious.
Another plus was that you could drink as much mandarin orange juice and coffee as you wanted.
The room was clean. It's also about a 15-minute walk from the bars and restaurants. I'd definitely stay here again."

"I really love the Daiwa hotel chain... it's affordable and comfortable. The location is excellent, within walking distance to Mitsukoshi, and Akihabara is also nearby. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to Dogo Onsen, but the parking lot can be busy since it's a multi-story garage, so there might be a wait. The parking fee is reasonable, and the parking attendants are very helpful... Overall, I recommend staying here."

"Location is a short walk from Dogo onsen station. The experience was amazing, rooms were huge and I was surprised to have a staff member show us around the room and explain the amenities available. The amount of hospitality is above and beyond any we've experienced at other places and ryokans. They also have a very beautiful outdoor garden, onsen and geta (traditional Japanese wooden shoes) and yukata to wear around the premises."

"You can think of this hotel as a 'plus' version of a domestic Orange Hotel Crystal. The decor is that of a five-star hotel, but the price is that of a business hotel. The renovations were clearly done with great care, and the breakfast across all their locations maintains a consistent standard. They all feature a free rooftop hot spring bath with a view. I've stayed at various Candeo hotels in different locations, and overall, the bathroom facilities at the Ehime branch feel a bit old; I suspect it's an older hotel that was renovated without updating the bathrooms. In winter, since the windows don't open for ventilation, a lot of condensation builds up. At night, when there's a lot of condensation, it drips down the walls, leading to mold in those areas. This results in a musty smell when you first enter the room. It must also be quite a hassle for the cleaning staff to deal with the condensation in every room daily. What I disliked most was the lack of a duvet cover; a single sheet separates you from the duvet. I've only encountered this at the Ehime and Kagoshima branches, perhaps it's a local custom… there's nothing much one can do about it. Everything else was great."

"Having a private two-story machiya (traditional townhouse) overlooking Ozu Castle's main tower was absolutely fantastic! The room had a huge bathroom with a cypress wood bathtub; soaking in it with hot water and the subtle scent of wood was truly enjoyable. The refrigerator in the room had plenty of complimentary drinks, and in the summer, sitting on the veranda after a bath and sipping a drink was incredibly relaxing. I'd love to experience other rooms converted from old houses in the castle next time I have the chance."

"Stayed at HOTEL MYSTAYS Matsuyama as a solo traveler and had a very pleasant experience. The location is convenient, with easy access to JR Matsuyama Station, trams, and major attractions like Matsuyama Castle and Dogo Onsen. My room was larger than I expected for Japan, clean, and comfortable.
The staff were helpful and check-in was smooth. The hotel has useful amenities such as Wi-Fi and self-service laundry, which are great for solo travelers. Breakfast was very good, with a good variety of Japanese and Western options.
Overall, it's a good-value hotel and an excellent base for exploring Matsuyama. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone who visit the city."

GGuest UserLocation is great! Less than 5 minutes walk to Matsuyama JR station. There was no staff at the counter in the morning. Although you can contact them with phone call, it's inconvenience for foreigners. I arrived in the morning and needed luggage check-in. Ended up leaving my luggage by myself in the corner of the lobby where several other luggages were left. Good thing there is 24hr video surveillance pointing at the luggage area and one can chain-lock the luggage to the rail shelf. Suggest to bring a chain-lock if you need to leave luggage there.
Check-in was easy and staff was friendly. Room is accessed via physical key, not RFID card like commonly seen today in hotels.
I booked single room. There is no tea kettle, tea bags, coffee, or drinking water inside the room. All those ammenities are at the lobby. Hot/cold water is only available from a portable water dispenser. I was really surprised that it is not allowed to refill the water with your own bottle (or any resuable bottle). The staff told me it is for hygenie concerns. One can only use the provided tiny paper cup (50~70ml in volume) to get water or make coffee/tea. And it is not allowed to eat/drink in the lobby area. So you have to hold the tiny cup and go back to your room to consume it. Very inconvenient to me.
They offer 2 kinds of set menu for breakfast: chicken congee and sea bream rice soup (Tai-chazuke). I had the later and it was delicious.
Overall, the stay met my expectations with price I paid except for the inconvenience in getting hot water for making tea or coffee myself. If I ever travel to Matsuyama bymyself again, I'll definitely consider staying in this place again. But I won't recommend it for couple or family stay though.

GGuest UserReally nice and quiet place. The owner is also a very kind person. Right next to the dogo onsen. The guests are mostly japanese onsen visitors and some buddhist pilgrims so the place is rather quiet in the evenings, good for those who will relax a little.

AAnonymous UserI stayed here as part of my Tokyo Love Story pilgrimage. The facilities, hygiene, and environment were all absolutely perfect, truly impeccable. The only issue was that when I booked, it showed no breakfast included, but the reservation slip provided by the front desk indicated breakfast. I returned the breakfast voucher to the front desk and asked them to double-check, as 3000 yen isn't a small amount. The front desk said they would verify and call my room, but I never heard back, even until check-out. For a hotel of this caliber, I really think this is unacceptable, especially since this was the part I was most looking forward to in Matsuyama. However, despite this minor flaw, the rest of my experience was absolutely perfect.

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is not close to Dogo Onsen street and you will need to drive or get a taxi if you want to go there. There are no restaurants or shops nearby the hotel. There is a walk nearby the hotel you can take which offers nice scenery in the woods. The hotel looks a bit dated particularly the bedrooms and the corridors. I asked for a quiet room facing the mountain instead of one facing a busy road and had to pay an additional 2200 yen. The hotel has a number of onsens and I like the outdoor ones best. The buffet dinner and breakfast offer good selection and I particularly like the dinner which offered nice teppanyaki beef and sushi.
The hotel reception staff spoke very little English and the hotel did not reply to an email I sent them asking for transportation information to get to the hotel.
There are buses near the hotel which go to Matsuyama and Imabari but they run infrequently.

GGuest UserThe JR Clement Inn is next door to the train station which is very nice if you're in town due to the Shimanami Kaido trail. Given the price point of the hotel, it delivers. They offered free drinks in the evening, including sake, and while we did not have their breakfast buffet, it appeared to be very good. Rooms were clean and spacious and location is very tough to beat.
