Booked this hotel last minute and it was surprisingly cheap, definitely worth the price. The only downside is there's no parking. I wasn't feeling well that day and just parked across the street, which ended up costing me 1300 JPY for 12 hours. Turns out, if I had looked around a bit more, there were plenty of spots nearby for 500-600 JPY for the same duration.

The hotel is very new with a modern decor. The soundproofing is excellent, and even the drawers, wardrobe doors, and shower door have soft-close mechanisms, making them very quiet. The public bath is a moderate size and has all the necessary facilities. The cleaning staff are diligent, so everything is quite clean. The hotel is located right above Kumamoto Station, making it incredibly convenient for taking the JR. Right outside the hotel are the A and B line tram stops, providing direct access to major tourist attractions and shopping streets. Additionally, floors 1 to 7 of the same building house a large shopping mall, including a Can Do 100-yen store, which is fantastic for inexpensive household goods and simple kitchenware. There's also a Big Camera in the mall. However, it's worth noting that most department stores close at 8 PM, with only some restaurants on the 6th and 7th floors open until 10 PM.

Hotel is in a pretty good location. Close to kumamoto JR station by Tram and walkable distance to the sakuramachi bus terminal/mall (5min). Serviable by both red and blue tram lines as well. Room is slightly bigger than the usual japanese business hotel. Pricewise was really affordable as well ($40+ sgd/night 1 pax). The hotel provides room cleaning for concurrent 3 days stay I believe (no daily cleaning, only change of towels), but you will need to pass the keycard/key tothe front desk on the day of the cleaning. And then retrieve the key back when come back to the hotel after the cleaning. No microwave in room, you need to go down to the lobby to use the only microwave in the hotel. Otherwise the hotel is a cheap and good stay.

Pros: 1. The location is super convenient, right next to the bus terminal and a shopping street, easy to find along the road. 2. The room layout is incredibly well-designed. It has high ceilings, a perfectly square shape, and the bed is against the wall, facing a large, openable window. There's a good distance from the building opposite, making for excellent space planning. Anyone who frequently stays in Japanese hotels will understand what I mean – this is a big plus! 3. The hotel clearly follows traditional hotel procedures, which are very detailed. The staff provided service with a smile, and there was a local Japanese staff member who, despite speaking broken Mandarin, genuinely tried to offer Chinese service, which was really impressive. 4. The room was very clean, free of any odd smells or noise, and the bedding was super comfortable. I finally got a good night's sleep on my last night in Kumamoto. Cons: 1. I have to complain about the washbasin; it's too small. It's difficult for anyone with a lot of cosmetics to spread them out, and items tend to fall off easily. Initially, looking at the hotel pictures and the lobby, I thought it was an old hotel and didn't have high expectations, especially thinking a small room might not be great. But it turned out to be really good! I had stayed at another hotel previously, and this one is significantly better by comparison. I'll definitely stay here again next time.

Service: English service was available, making communication smooth and clear. The front desk staff were professional. Environment: The location is excellent. There's a bus stop right downstairs, it's easy to hail a taxi, and there are supermarkets, Kumamoto souvenir shops, restaurants, and convenience stores nearby – very convenient. There's also a pedestrian street in the vicinity, and the room offers a view of Kumamoto Castle. Hygiene: Overall, it was good. Even when 'Do Not Disturb' was selected, fresh towels were still left hanging on the door. However, we found a pair of slippers under the bed that weren't ours, likely left by a previous guest.

The hotel's location is fantastic! There's a bus stop right downstairs. The concierge on the first floor helped us book bus tickets to Aso and Kagoshima, making our travel super smooth. It was much more convenient than going to the bus terminal ourselves. The room was compact but well-arranged, and all the toiletries were provided, even face wash, toner, and lotion from LA MER. You can pretty much just pack your bags and move in. Right across the street are the Tsuruya Department Store and the entrance to Shimotori, so dining and shopping were incredibly convenient.

Good location just in front of the castle. Night view is great. The 10th floor for breakfast and coffee at night is the best place to relax. Breakfast is the best I have in this trip. We have breakfast at new year eve and new year day , the food is probably arranged and served. The only complaint is the parking not available for my Toyota Harriers. I need to park at private parking cost me > 2000 yen .

EEleonora Del BianchiI have been staying in very special places in Japan: beautiful locations with lots of care and details but this one is my favorite so far! Yoshi and Myong made me feel super welcomed, comfy and happy in their guesthouse. I arrived with a BIG LUGAGGE which was right away taken up by Yoshi (thank you so much!!!) and when I left he reminded me I could ask for his help if I needed (which I did). I like to ”judge” a place by the comfiness of their sofas, and Aso Base delivered superb excellency! So many cozy corners, there's not even one futon that is not hyper soft! The bathrooms have some themes on the wall, one is the cat theme, another one jellyfish and the other is lizards, so I had fun time choosing what theme I would go to. The shower capsules have shampoo conditioner and soap and then an area to dry your hair with a great view! There's details that are just piece of art! A small corner with a table, cd player and CDs that are awesome- Japanese, international and relax music and audiobooks! I've searched many of them in Spotify and will keep listening. While you are listening there are some images, like a collage, and it's so well thought. Every image has a doll representing it live action as well, like dreams coming true. The kitchen is reeeeaallly equipped, drinking water at the tap and has lots of seasonings and teapots 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 There's extra blankets and pillows and some of the pillows are animal shaped 😺🐶🐷🐑 so during my four nights there I slept in the company of Mr Snuggles, a grey cat that smiled with his eyes closed - there was pinky pig and hairy sheep too! in the female dorm every bed has a blue sky wallpaper like in Toy Story!!!! 🥹 I was a bit worried because the comments say there's lots of rules and that they are strict and don't open the door for people in the rain. But the thing is: there are some rules, because they are two people (+ another lady who helps with cleaning) taking care of a big house. It needs some organization and routines. They provide storage and the area has great options to enjoy while waiting - if necessary. Is a small town, many great restaurants around - the shop right next to the station that sells local products is a must trying repeatedly, the best onsen in the region is 3 minutes away, a Lawson across the street. I greatly enjoyed my time in Aso and everyday was glad to be going back to Aso Base. It is a place to come with a light and warm heart and soul ( they will certainly retribute), where you can have great conversations, play games or read a book, cozily nested and drinking tea while the fireplace and many lighting create a whole vibe. I've booked 4 nights and wish they were 8! Kamsahamnida and Domo Arigato, Myong and Yoshi!!!

GGuest UserAs the first stop of my birthday trip, I chose Aso. Having previously worked as a hotel management professional, I had high expectations for the hotel’s facilities and services. My stay at Kakuman Hotel, along with my traveling companions, was thoroughly enjoyable—from check-in to the overall amenities, everything exceeded our satisfaction. The staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly, whether at the front desk or in the restaurant. Additionally, experiencing hot springs for the first time left us feeling deeply relaxed. Thank you to Kakuman Hotel for adding color to my journey.🙏🏼 While every aspect was highly satisfying, there was a minor shortcoming: the majority of diners in the restaurant were Korean tourists. On my second night, a small incident occurred during dinner. The server assigned me a seat where only tableware and a departure-time notice were placed. After I retrieved my food, I found three Korean guests (two elderly individuals and a middle-aged man) preparing to sit there. I was confused whether I had taken the wrong seat or if there was another reason, so I asked the guests. Unexpectedly, the man loudly called over the female server who had arranged the seat and sharply questioned her in Japanese. The server later found me the correct seat, which was at the table adjacent to the three guests. I felt deeply sorry for the female server being unjustly scolded, and I also did not understand why the Korean man needed to accuse her in such a loud tone—I would have been happy to apologize for my misunderstanding. Regarding the above incident, I would like to offer a suggestion: the tables in the restaurant are each equipped with a bucket of tableware and wet wipes, but there are no numbers or markers to identify the assigned seats. Guests can only rely on placing their own items or memory to remember their seats. I believe I am not the only one who has encountered a similar issue, and the hotel may consider adding markers to each table to make it easier for guests to recognize their assigned seats.

GGuest UserPros: 1. Great location! It's a convenient 5-10 minute walk from Kumamoto Bus Terminal (easily accessible by bus from Fukuoka Airport), right in the commercial district. No worries about coming back late after shopping. 2. The hotel is very new and spotlessly clean. There wasn't a single dirty spot or any unpleasant odors. The hygiene was exceptional. 3. On the first floor, there's a self-service station for amenities and maps. On the middle floors, you'll find pajamas and a microwave. 4. The staff were fantastic! One gentleman spoke Chinese and proactively offered help in Chinese, and all the other staff members were incredibly nice. Cons: 1. This is truly hard to explain, but I didn't sleep a wink for both nights of my stay. The hotel allows windows to be opened, so the temperature was good, but it got stuffy and hot in the middle of the night. The duvet was incredibly non-breathable, feeling like it was made of a poor quality material. My arms even broke out in a rash, possibly an allergic reaction. The pillow was also uncomfortable. 2. The room type I was given overlooked a construction site, and it was incredibly noisy. Overall, it was a very strange stay. The hotel is new, and the staff are great, yet I somehow couldn't sleep for two nights. I'm still feeling groggy and can't pinpoint why it didn't work for me. However, I still highly recommend the hotel.

GGuest UserI stayed here with my parents. We had separate rooms and booked this room for them. It was new, well-equipped, and wonderful. It was a very cold day, but the heating in the room and the semi-open-air bath in the room were warm, so it seemed comfortable for my elderly parents. The staff were also very courteous. Although I didn't book this room, the room type we stayed in was cold, as the heating in the semi-open-air bath and the room didn't work very well. If you're staying during the cold season, I think it's better to choose a D-type room or higher. I would like to visit again during the better seasons.

PPamplemousse&Just a three-minute walk from Kumamoto Station, the location is excellent. The hotel seems to be an older one that's been renovated. It's been a long time since I've stayed in a room that uses a physical key! The room size isn't small for Japan, and the bed is huge. Overall, the facilities are very new. I'll definitely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Kumamoto.

NNataliia KhokhlovaI really liked the hot springs with high iron content in this ryokan: I had sore throat for about 3 weeks before the journey, but it recovered just after the first bath. We also liked that family baths are for free if they are vacant (in the evening there wasn't any problem). The staff is attentive, thank you very much. The food was delicious, and there was more than enough for a man. However, we would recommend choosing a Japanese-style breakfast, since frying eggs on a burner is not very convenient. Nevertheless, everything was delicious. As for the drinks for breakfast, there was only coffee from the coffee machine. But there is always green tea in the room (we had problems with the hot pot, so they brought us a thermos). The only thing we did not like was the heating. However, it is unlikely to do anything with it when it is minus 3 degrees outside at night. Without heating, it was very cold, the floor was cold. But the heating is very noisy, and it is difficult to find a temperature balance. We sweated a lot at night under the blankets, and since the shower is not in the room - it is in the onsen, it was inconvenient. Thanks God, we had spare pajamas with us. Overall, for this cost of accommodation we can give 5 points.
