Longhu Ancient Village has a history as melodious as a song

Chaozhou Longhu Ancient Village was established during the Southern Song Dynasty, and there are more than 100 existing ancient buildings that reflect the different architectural styles of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. It also encompasses the essence of typical folk architectural crafts of Chaozhou, such as stone carving, wood carving, porcelain inlay, color painting, and shell lime sculpture, and is known as the 'Exhibition of Chaozhou Ancient Architecture'. Longhu Village has produced 53 scholars and eminent figures from the imperial examinations over the generations. There are also many inscriptions, calligraphy, and steles from famous people. Inside the village, there are more than 100 ancestral halls, mansions of officials, and residences of wealthy merchants and gentry, many of which are five or even ten courtyards deep. The streets and alleys are well-ordered, and the mottled old houses are still inhabited by their descendants. The buildings exude a strong sense of history and vicissitudes, which is also a living fossil of Chaozhou's local culture.
