Fort Augustus - Scotland, UK

Fort Augustus is a picturesque village in the Scottish Highlands, in the heart of the Great Glen. Located on the southernmost tip of Loch Ness, this village offers a stunning setting surrounded by mountains and lakes. In the 18th century, it was used as a military base during the Jacobite uprisings. Today the fort no longer stands, but remnants of it can still be seen. Fort Augustus is famous for its canal locks, which connect the Caledonian Canal with Loch Ness. You can witness the spectacle of baits navigating through the series of locks, creating a captivating sight. There’s also a museum about “Nessie”, famously known as the Loch Ness Monster, which I think is a must-visit if you’re there! Usually a day-trip to Glenfinnan Viaduct will bring you to this village. But if you’re planning a road trip, it’s approximately 40 miles (64km) from Inverness. There are also bus services from Inverness to bring you to Fort Augustus. #tripblazers #scotland #uk #darwintravel
