Longyou County, under the jurisdiction of Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the western part of Zhejiang Province, in the central part of the Jinqu Basin. It lies between 28°44'~29°17'N latitude and 119°02'~119°20'E longitude, and has a subtropical monsoon climate with early springs, short autumns, and long summers and winters. Longyou County has a long history. During the Spring and Autumn period, the ancient state of 'Gumei' was established here. In the 25th year of Emperor Qin Shi Huang (222 BC), the county of Taimo was established. In the sixth year of Baoding during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (931 AD), it was renamed Longyou. In September 1983, the county status of Longyou was restored, making it one of the first 13 counties established in the history of Zhejiang Province. The Hehua Mountain site within the county has revealed the earliest ground structures built by humans after they left the caves, and the Qingdiao site has uncovered the world's earliest rice cultivation remains to date. The county boasts over 200 cultural relics protection units at the national, provincial, and county levels, with the Jiangxi Ancient Weir being included in the World Irrigation Project Heritage. Throughout the dynasties, 162 top scholars and imperial examination graduates have emerged from here, earning it the reputation of 'the foremost in scholarly tradition in the region.' The Longyou merchant group was one of the top ten merchant groups in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties and is known as the origin of Zhejiang merchants. Longyou County has been awarded titles such as National Ecological Demonstration Area, National Green Ecological Urban Area, Top 100 Counties in Comprehensive Tourism Strength Nationwide, Provincial Model Civilized City, Provincial All-region Tourism Demonstration County, and Provincial Garden City.
