How to layer up for a winter hike in low temperatures on Wugong Mountain | Trekking

📍 Itinerary Planning: 🚞 Guangzhou to Pingxiang Station: Depart from Guangzhou by train at 8:40 pm on Friday, arrive at Pingxiang Station around ⏰ 6:30 am, pre-arrange a chartered car for 200/6 people, and head to Longshan Village immediately upon arrival. 🛤 1️⃣ Reverse trailhead ⛩ 8:30: Start hiking from Longshan Village 🧗‍♀️ (Taxi can be directed to Fenglin Mountain Villa, the path on the right is the way up the mountain) You can buy water 💧 and dry food at the foot of the mountain, the prices are not too expensive, ten yuan for a bowl of poached eggs 🥚 Jiangxi rice noodles is quite a bargain, fill up and then you can start the ascent. 2️⃣ Yangjiao Jian ⛩ 11.11: After about three hours of continuous climbing through bamboo forests, you'll reach the ridge (where the trail opens up), currently about half of the supply points are open, they use bamboo 🏝 to build some basic benches, even if you don't buy anything, they are available for everyone to rest, which I think is quite humane. 3️⃣ Fayunjie ⛩ 12.43: There's a stone monument 🪦 here for a checkpoint, we chose to have lunch at the small shop here, to lighten the load of our backpacks 🎒. There are many forks in the road, and various signs 🪧, the inns on the mountain will mostly guide you to take the route that passes their inn, it's best to download an offline map in advance to find the most suitable route for yourself. 4️⃣ Qianzhangyan: Walking over a series of small hills. 5️⃣ Haohan Slope ⛩ 15.42: Down from Haohan Slope to the mid-mountain is where we stayed for the night - Wufa Inn, 160 per person including breakfast and dinner, the weather is cold, but the rooms in the inn are warmer than I imagined, as they are wooden, the sound insulation is very poor (basically non-existent). The next morning at 5.56 we set off to conquer the Golden Summit 🆙. 5️⃣ Despair Slope starting point ⛩ 6.26: Actually, Despair Slope is similar to the previous slopes, but this slope has no proper path, you have to walk on rocks, which is a bit more difficult compared to before, 7.10 conquered Despair Slope. 6️⃣ Guanyin Dan ⛩ 7.52: It's a relatively large accommodation point, we didn't stay long and continued on our way. 7️⃣ Diaoma Village ⛩ 9.10: The most despairing part of the entire reverse journey is probably the path from here to the Golden Summit, a continuous climb up stone steps, after yesterday's physical exertion, basically need to rest for ten seconds after every twenty steps, there are large restrooms + hot water at the foot of the mountain, you can replenish here as needed. 8️⃣ Golden Summit ⛩ 10.12: Arrived at the Golden Summit, successfully conquered the modest Wugong Mountain, this is the highest point of Wugong Mountain, there is a stone monument on top for checking in, and then you can choose to hike down the mountain/take the cable car down, we chose to take two cable car rides down (Golden Summit cableway to Zhong'an cableway) 9️⃣ Scenic area gate ⛩ 13.00: End of the special forces, time to go home. Equipment: Hardshell jacket (essential), fleece, lightweight down, headlamp, trekking poles, quick-dry clothing, hiking boots, thermos, rice, change of clothes 👔 📍 Route Intensity: The reverse route is not too difficult, it's more appropriate to complete the challenge in two days ✅ ⛺️ Camping is not recommended in this weather: Because it's cold you already have to carry a lot of clothes + camping gear, the load is too heavy, it will be too much for your shoulders to bear.
