Banda Neira, Maluku🌊

Banda Neira was once the world trade center for nutmeg and mace (mace), because Kep. Banda was the only source of this highly prized spice until the mid 19th century. The modern city was founded by members of the VOC, who massacred the Bandanese population for their nutmeg in 1621 and took the remaining ones to Batavia (now Jakarta) to be used as slaves. This island is also famous as a place of exile for political prisoners during the Dutch East Indies Colonial Government. Several national struggle figures who have experienced living on this island include Mohammad Hatta, Sutan Syahrir, and Cipto Mangunkusumo. In 2016, the house where Sutan Syahrir and Mohammad Hatta lived was turned into a museum while Cipto Mangkusumo's house was still left empty. #triplocal
