The hotel 🏨 was established in 1864 and was named after Dr. Francis Randolph, a benefactor of the university in the 18th century. The university, also known as the Randolph Gallery (now part of the Ashmolean Museum), is the result of a £1,000 gift left by Dr. Randolph, who died in 1796. Dr. Randolph was the former principal of St. Alban's Hall (now part of Merton College). - 🆕 The hotel opened in 1866. It underwent significant renovations in 1952, 1978, 1988, and 2000. In the 1952 renovation, a western extension was added, designed by J. Hopgood. - 📖 On April 17, 2015, the Randolph Hotel experienced a 'major fire 🔥' and was renovated thereafter.
