The ancient towers that witness the emotions and history of the hometown of overseas Chinese have a poignant story behind them

Gushao Tower, located on Baogai Mountain in Shishi City, is also known as 'Wanshou Tower' or 'Guan Suo Tower'. It was built during the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty and has a history of over 800 years. Gushao Tower backs onto Quanzhou Bay and faces the Taiwan Strait, embodying the spirit of controlling the waterway and guarding the southeast, hence it is also called 'Guan Suo Tower'. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Quanzhou Port was one of the largest trading ports in the world, with a very prosperous foreign trade, conducting business with more than seventy countries and regions. At that time, Gushao Tower became a navigational marker for ships at sea.
