Lake Matheson is most famous for its mirror-like lake water, and it truly lives up to its reputation as a breathtakingly beautiful place that people can't help but linger at. However, my personal favorite ending trail leads to a large open space before reaching the parking lot, where the view of Mount Cook is absolutely stunning, especially in the evening when the sunset paints the sky red and the sun illuminates the mountaintop, with flocks of geese adding to the beauty. It's hard to imagine a more picturesque scene.
