Palace Museum Artifacts Cross the Sea for an Appointment, 128 Masterpieces Debut on Gulangyu Island

128 heavyweight collections from the Palace Museum have arrived at Gulangyu Island and officially debuted on December 6 at the Palace Museum Gulangyu Foreign Artifacts Hall! This exhibition is divided into two main sections: "Splendid Treasures of a Flourishing Age" and "Subtle Waves of Maritime Nations," offering a brand-new viewing experience. The "Subtle Waves of Maritime Nations" gallery features 118 foreign artifacts from more than ten countries including the UK, France, and Germany, covering categories such as lacquerware, ceramics, clocks, and scientific instruments. Through four chapters—"Artifact Origins," "Technological Exemplars," "Life’s Elegance," and "Graceful Displays"—it weaves together the wisdom of cultural exchanges between China and abroad: the precision of European clocks, the warmth of Chinese porcelain, the intricacy of scientific instruments... Each artifact tells a moving story of ancient interactions. The newly arranged "Splendid Treasures of a Flourishing Age" gallery focuses on ancient Chinese art, showcasing 108 masterpieces spanning from the Shang Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Divided into five parts—"Ritual Elegance and Auspicious Metals," "Imperial Kiln Charm," "Jade from Kunlun," and more—it presents the solemnity of bronze ware, the warmth of jade, the elegance of porcelain, and the exquisite craftsmanship of Qing Dynasty court objects, comprehensively displaying the brilliance of Chinese art and the aesthetic tastes of the imperial court. This exhibition was planned over a year and brings together 226 artifacts (including 98 treasures retained by the museum).
