Ying County Wooden Pagoda

The desire to visit Datong started with watching a documentary about the Ying County Wooden Pagoda. Since then, it has been on my mind day and night. Actually, the Ying County Wooden Pagoda is part of Shuozhou City, but most travelers include it in their Datong travel plans. The Ying County Wooden Pagoda is also known as the Buddha Palace Temple Shakyamuni Pagoda. It was built in the second year of the Qingning era of the Liao Dynasty (1056), and it is the tallest and oldest existing pure wooden structure pavilion-style building in the world. It is known as one of the 'Three Wonders of the World' along with Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
